Otherwise you end up booting into Safe Mode (with Networking) repeatedly until you do so. The registry edits have nothing whatsoever with making the machine boot into safe mode, they just make it possible to have sound while in safe mode. It's the choice on the MSCONFIG General tab that indicates the system startup type. And when you've changed the bits on the Boot tab to have Safe Mode at boot, the radio button on the general tab is automatically switched to the third radio button, "Selective Startup", with it's first two checkboxes checked. (And it stays that way unless you reactivate the Normal startup radio button). --

William,
Thank you very much. Now it's been around
a year since Google imposed a new security requirement, and I've gone in to as
many of my links and corrected them as I could remember, but apparently not
this one.
Getting Sound in Safe Mode Under

That link should work. It's a ZIP
file and you should save it to your Desktop (or copy it there from wherever it
downloads) and unzip it there. After the unzipping, the ZIP file can be
deleted. The instructions for using it after you've unzipped it
are in the folder in a plain text file.
If there are any additional
issues, please let me know. --

just not used to using MSCONFIG to do a safe boot and the networking choice
comes up before Windows boots using the method I usually do.
In the
Boot Tab of MSCONFIG, there is a checkbox for "Safe Boot" which you must
check. Associated with that checkbox, and only accessible once it's
checked, are a series of 4 radio buttons: Minimal, Alternate Shell,
Active Directory Repair, and Network. Checking the Safe Mode checkbox
and activating the Network radio button causes a safe mode boot with
networking.
Something I've had happen once when using the MSCONFIG
method is that when the machine restarted it would not accept my password or
pin initially, but if I held down the power button until it shut off, then
restarted it again with the power button it took it and went into safe
mode. I have no idea how consistent this is, as I don't use the MSCONFIG
method at all often to induce safe mode boot.
Remember that after
you've done the boot into Safe Mode with Networkig using this method, that you
have to invoke MSCONFIG while you're in Safe mode and go back to Normal
startup in the General Tab in order to get the computer back to booting
typically. Otherwise you end up booting into Safe Mode (with Networking)
repeatedly until you do so. --

Hi,
After years of frustration with Adobe, I keep its use at a minimum now. My default PDF reader is a free blindness-specific app called Bookworm. I don't want to jinx it, but it works rather well. And for tables in PDFs, I still use Adobe. For OCR-ing PDFs that are image-based, I use ABBYY Fine Reader 14.

Re: Spell checker problems with Microsoft Word 2016
Hi Laura, When I was running Microsoft Word 2016, because I was tinkering with stuff I had no business doing, this problem occurred several times. The best way I found to fix this problem, asides from the one I mentioned before, was editing the registry. But, before you do that, have you deleted the normal template for both word and outlook? The following link gives instructions as how, to do this: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/how-to-reset-user-options-and-registry-settings-in-word-298d8a79-7a68-48a2-8946-2e8f98840314 the only difference from their method and my own was that the key …word/data was not the key I deleted. I deleted the “word” subkey. Microsoft word will rebuild the key and this usually repairs the spellcheck problem.

Annabelle, I have no idea why Glenn/Lenny's registry edit script contains that key ( Şοûпđ, νìδ℮ô άήδ ğªмè ¢őήťřόℓŀèґ !!! !!! !). No, you don't have to worry what is in the .REG
file.
Sorry I pasted the contents of the REG
file.
I thought some folks might want to roll their
own.
I didn't paste it for anyone to try to figure it
out.

Subject: Sound settings do not appear to be turned on
in Safe Mode in Windows 10
Hello
everyone:
The subject line
says it all. Earlier today, I checked the check box to have the system boot
to safe mode, under the Boot Tab in MsConfig, saved the setting change
then, I restarted the computer. . However, after waiting for about
2 minutes, I determined that the sound settings for the default sound card
are not enabled for Windows 10 in Safe Mode. I was certain that the system
had restarted in Safe Mode, and on that assumption, I used another computer
with MsConfig to follow the steps, to uncheck
the check box for the original computer then, I restarted the computer,
which started in full Windows mode.
I have no idea
how far back this problem goes, I do remember, the System Sounds were turned on for
the last major update in 2019 because, I can
remember booting Windows 10 into Safe Mode at that time and being able to
use both Narrator and NVDA
Do you now need to
initialize a setting in standard Windows in order for the System Sounds to
be turned on for safe mode?

Re: YouTube Downloader, Extractor etc
Hi, Hareth. Why not try TCA Media Downloader. It is portable, meaning that you don't need to install it, and it does work with Windows 7. I'll send a link for it below, along with instructions to change the interface language to English. https://drive.google.com/uc?id=1mNy8k98CjkTxU8To_3S3bqPl_FHzaacU&export=downloadHow To Change From Spanish To English 1. Start the program. 2. Press ALT plus M. 3. Press the letter O for Options. You will be in the General Options. 4. Once in this General menu, TAB once, and press the letter I for Ingles, which is Spanish for English. 5. TAB to the ACCEPTAR button and press ENTER. 6. Once you press the ACCEPTAR button, the program will tell you in Spanish that the language has been changed, and that the program needs to restart. 7. You will be on another ACCEPTAR button, which is equivalent to an OK button. Press ENTER. 8. The program will now restart in English, and will stay that way until changed in General Options. Change Options 1. Start the program. 2. TAB through, and set format, audio quality, Custom directory, and custom output filename. 3. Press ALT plus M, followed by the letter O, and set the options in the following categories, General, Search / URL bar, Player, and Sound 4. Go to the folder where TCA Media Downloader's program files are stored, find the .exe file that starts the program, and create a desktop shortcut for this file. Bill White billwhite92701@...

None of the systems which I am running Windows 10, show an option called "Safe mode with Networking". Do I need to do something in order for that option to be shown in the Boot Tab in MsConfig?
- It is shown in the boot tab of MSCONFIG. I'm just not used to using MSCONFIG to do a safe boot and the networking choice comes up before Windows boots using the method I usually do. In the Boot Tab of MSCONFIG, there is a checkbox for "Safe Boot" which you must check. Associated with that checkbox, and only accessible once it's checked, are a series of 4 radio buttons: Minimal, Alternate Shell, Active Directory Repair, and Network. Checking the Safe Mode checkbox and activating the Network radio button causes a safe mode boot with networking. Something I've had happen once when using the MSCONFIG method is that when the machine restarted it would not accept my password or pin initially, but if I held down the power button until it shut off, then restarted it again with the power button it took it and went into safe mode. I have no idea how consistent this is, as I don't use the MSCONFIG method at all often to induce safe mode boot. Remember that after you've done the boot into Safe Mode with Networkig using this method, that you have to invoke MSCONFIG while you're in Safe mode and go back to Normal startup in the General Tab in order to get the computer back to booting typically. Otherwise you end up booting into Safe Mode (with Networking) repeatedly until you do so. --
