Hi,
Using: up to date W10 Home, 64 bit and latest Jaws.

The following announcement, along with others, has been appearing a couple of times a day for a little while and am wondering if anyone else is also receiving these annoying messages.  More importantly, what can be done about them.

Your Norton has Expired Today?

Both Defender and Microsoft Malicious File Removal tool has been run but found nothing.

As for Norton's, it has never been used on this system so obviously the message is a scam.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Tom

moderated jaws scripts

Juan Hernandez

Hi All,

I’m trying to get into scripting.

I was trying to ask questions on the jaws scripting list but it seems like it is no longer active so I’d thought I’d ask here.

I am working in eclipse software development environment to code java.  An issue I am having is that the autocompletion does not read in jaws.  In NVDA it reads fantastically, so I know that eclipse is exposing information when the auto complete is active.

I am wondering if anyone knows how I would go by writing a jaws script to make this read?  Any advise would be great, or are there any tools that show events as they are firing to show what is happening ?

Thanks.

moderated notification windows

Juan Hernandez

Hi All,

I was wondering, applications like Zoom, show little windows in the corner of the screen telling users their upcoming meeting is near.  How would someone with jaws go by finding that window, and closing it?

Thanks.

Mario,

I found the Windows keyboard language by searching for it. It is set at English (United States). So it is not the problem. I hope someone else can help me here. Thank you.

nope, nothing else to press. alt+shift is a Windows command, I think,
to switch keyboard languages, but if you never installed a different
language pack, pressing alt+shift will do nothing.

Nothing happened after I pressed alt plus shift together. Is there a
key that I need to press with the Alt plus shift key combination? Is
this a Windows problem or is it a JAWS issue?

Thanks!

I recently had a similar issue, and I solved it by pressing alt+shift
to set the keyboard language to US English. I don't know if there's
another way.

Hello,

My name is Lenore Presley. I am DeafBlind and use JAWS with Braille.

I have some problems with how JAWS reads numbers and spaces in between
them in Outlook and Microsoft Word. When I read numbers with spaces
inbetwwen, dots appear in places where the spaces are supposed to be. I
would like to know how I can remedy this issue. Yes, even when I write
inWord and try to type numbers and spaces in between numbers, dots still
appear in place of spaces.

I would greatly appreciate your assistance!

Sincerely,

Lenore Presley ;o)

Mario,

I see. I'llcheck for the keyboard settings in Windows to see what I have. The problem exists while reading mail andWord documents. So not sure if it is the keyboard issue. I'll check it out. Thank you.

Thanks to Brian, Leo, Karen and David for your thoughts.

Would you believe the Freedom Scientific Help Desk gave me an answer that is really workable and works all the time?

The Help Desk person suggested that I have focus on the pop-up window,

press alt-spacebar and in the contextual menu that appears arrow down to close and press enter.

In other words, I am in the 3 little boxes in the top right of just about every
Windows window.

The esc key worked some of the time, but not always for me.

Hi Ken,

If these are really irritating things that don’t go away, try pressing Windows A if in Windows 10 (I think it has changed in Windows 11) and you can tab around and manage notifications. In addition, it is possible you have Spotify starting when you start up the computer. I would turn that off and only start Spotify when you want to use it. Check if this is starting at startup by pressing Windows and typing startup in the search box, and hitting Enter. Then tab through, and uncheck apps you don’t want to start at startup. As for Norton, I don’t use it and try to avoid it, but think I remember you saying once that it is really important for you.

These may help, but no guarantees.

Regards,

David

What people need to understand is that services like Protonmail only offer you "more security" if the sender and recipient are both Protonmail users, which is what allows end-to-end encryption.

Gmail itself has end-to-end encryption within the webmail ecosystem.

I can't imagine why there would be much difficulty setting up any email account with any major email service provider under Thunderbird as the whole process is automated and all you need to give it is your email address and password (and if it's a Gmail address, be stepped through setting up OAUTH).

Subject: Virtual find

Hello,

I’m using the most recent versions of Windows10, Jaws2022 and a few days ago I uninstalled Google Chrome and reinstalled.

Since the last update to Jaws2022 I have encountered a problem when using Google Chrome. When I open Chrome the cursor is on the address/search bar. When I read the line before typing in anything wit will “address and search bar a”. Why is the letter showing up? I have pressed delete and back space and it doesn’t go away. When I type in something to search or a url, it has no affect. Jaws must be picking up on some letter.

Then when I’m on a web page I will press control F to do the virtual find. There are times the letter F shows in the search box. I pressed delete and back space and the letter doesn’t go away. Then there are times I will type in some text and it will say 2 of 78. For what I’m searching on there is only 2 occurrences. The only way I can see what the cursor is on I have to press escape. There are times the virtual find works okay. I talked with FS and was told in order to see what the cursor hit on is to tab and it will tell me. Well I tabbed numerous times and it doesn’t tell me what the cursor is on. I also mentioned the character that shows up and was told I need to make sure I have the most recent version for Chrome, windows10 and all drivers. Well as I said before I got the most recent download a few days ago. Windows was updated last week. This problem has been going since the most recent to Jaws2022. Has anyone experienced this issue? What did you do to correct it?

Cheers,

Kevin

Hi,

First thing you need to check is if your license is renewed. Every year you have to renew these home annual licenses so you'll need to go to portal.freedomscientific.com and log in with your cridentuals and see if your license is still good or if you need to renew it. Second, if the jaws installation is failing, then the best thing to do with that would be to contact Tech support as they might be able to help you do some other trouble shooting steps. Hope this helps, and if anyone has any other suggestions please feel free to chime in.

Thanks.

Hi all. I purchased a annual subscription to Jaws and attempted to install 2022. 2018 was my working version and for some reason even though I had 2019 2020 and 2021 on my computer none of them worked correctly as I don't know if they got corrupted or whatever the issue is. When I go to install 2022 I get the error message that says The Jaws install has failed close button. I tried downloading the file from the freedom scientific web site and still no go. I have nvda on my machine so that's what I'm using until I can fix this issue. If anyone has any ideas let me know because I'd like to get it installed and my license activated as soon as I possibly can. Thanks.

As far as I know and I double checked with the version I have installed, you have the latest.

Note: the layout of the program has changed a bit and it has been that way for over a year.

Also, Note: Microsoft will be doing away with Skype and moving everything to MS Teams if you are using MS 365. I believe it should update once you switch to Windows 11.
