Re: Has Windows finally developed a screen curtain like Apple has for Voice over
Jim Weiss <jimweiss72@...>
There is not one in Win 10, and I haven’t played with Win 11 enough to answer that question. JAWS has a screen curtain that I believe was introduced in 2020. As far as Steve’s comment about the system crashing, the screen curtain would not remain active as it is only on until JAWS is reset (or in the case of MacOS or iOS until the device is reset). Meaning if you are using JAWS and logout or reboot the machine the screen curtain is off until you turn it back on again. If the machine crashes and reboots or is forced to reboot the screen curtain will be off until you reactivate it again.

You can use the "Screenshade" feature in JAWS to prevent others from looking over your shoulder when you type sensitive details. The Screenshade can be turned on or off with the keystroke, JAWS key + Spacebar, followed by F11. This keystroke is a toggle keystroke. Regards Sameer Latey

Re: Navigating to attachments in Outlook
Steve Nutt
Exactly. If you use the Preview pane, which I don’t recommend, then you can’t access attachments without opening a message.
You can’t anyway. I suggest turning off the preview pane as it marks messages as read, even if you don’t open them.
The preview pane is horrible in my view.

Hi All,
I am not entirely sure if this is a JAWS issue, but in the last couple of days, I can’t seem to navigate to attachments in Outlook. I know they are there because JAWS tells me there are attachments when I am scrolling through my messages. However, when I back space or use insert A to get to the attachments, JAWS tells me there are no attachments.
I am using JAWS 2021, the latest version I believe, and the most current version of Outlook.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Re: Export/import in Outlook2016
Thomas N. Chan <thomas.nchan@...>
What you are experiencing is, the default pst or outlook catalogue file is set to another. if you know where your calendar is stored in which file, you can set that as default. After you do that, everytime you open calendar ctrl - 2, it will be showing that from that pst file. go to the control panel of your windows, then find mail (microsoft outlook) then tab to data file and hit space on it. then you will be in a list of pst files. Do you have multiple on it? if you have, make sure the one which you want is set as default calendar is selected for that pst file. if you have multiple outlook profiles, then, it's another whole layer of different issues. It’s that when Chrome opens, JAWS doesn’t notice that it has gained focus. I don’t know the reason for it.

i don't think JAWS + Z does it. I'm sure I would have tired it before restarting JAWS. Does anyone have a theory of what possibly is going on? Is JAWS not creating a virtual buffer for the html in Chrome? I think when it broke with Chrome it also broke with Firefox for me.

Re: Jeff Lukacsena: question on Windows 11 and Jaws
Sieghard Weitzel <sieghard@...>
You should always run the latest version of Jaws, right now that is still Jaws 2021 unless you install the public beta version of Jaws 2022 which is available to everybody at this point. With Windows 11 and especially going forward Jaws 2022 is recommended. Once Jaws 2022 is officially released later this month or in early November you would have to either have a subscription to run it or have a remaining SMA to authorize it.

Hi, Justin. It's in one of two places. First it's in the JAWS Startup Wizard, under Help.
Secondly, it is in Quick Settings (JAWS key plus V). When the search box opens, after you press JAWS key plus V, enter the word smart, and Smart Reading will come up in the search. If it is checked, try unchecking it, and see if that makes a difference in how you can navigate with the arrow keys. Make sure to TAB to the OK button to save the changes.

I have Jaws 2021, and windows 10. Office 2016
I've noticed, that when I read by word in Microsoft word, that JAWS sometimes doesn't read.
The cursor will move, but it will not say anything. When I read Character by Character it works fine.
Why is that?
Thanks,
