Re: JAWS Outlook Contacts Help

Cristóbal

This has been an issue with Outlook 2016 since I don’t know when. Don’t recall this being a problem with Outlook 2010. I’ve gotten in the habbit of arrowing back and forth once before clicking on the desired contact. This focus being off has been annoying to say the least. Maximizing the window and so on doesn’t make a difference. I’ve almost gotten used to it at this point.

Using the most recent Jaws 2018, but  it’s been like this since at least JFW 18.

I have a user that is running into problems with the latest version of Outlook and the latest version of JAWS.  The user views their contacts as business cards so that it reads the contact’s information.  However, as the user moves through the list of contacts, JAWS reads the contact the user just moved off of and not the currently selected contact.   For example, when the user is on Contact 1 and moves to Contact 2, JAWS reads Contact 1 even through Contact 2 is highlighted.  When the user moves to Contact 3, JAWS reads contact 2.   Any ideas would be helpful.

Becky:

I use Windows 7 here with Jaws 2018. In fact, I just installed the latest build of Jaws 2018 yesterday.

In my view, it's always good to have the most up-to-date software on your computer if possible, even if you are using an older operating system such as Windows 7.

That way, if you run into issues, it is easier for Freedom Scientific Technical support or others to help you if needed.

I purchased a new computer in August 2017. I'm using Windows 7 with JAWS 18.
I'm authorized to download JAWS 2018, but since I'm not using Windows 10 is there any benefit to downloading the new version? Any input would be appreciated.

Becky,

No harm in downloading and installing. Your JAWS 18 will still be installed,
so you can switch if you desire.

I use ?Windows 7 and downloaded 2018. My vocalizer voice was stopping for as long as half a minute, frequently. Since downloading the latest update with 2018, the voice works fine. That's the big improvement for me.

This is very disheartening. With the number of us having this problem, it would seem to me JAWS is what needs to be fixed. On another computer I have Office 2010 and this does not happen. I have been experiencing this same problem for a while.  I am completely frustrated.  I called VFO and they had no suggestions other than call MicroSoft accessibility desk.  I have not done that but don't see what they could do.  Since moving to Windows 10 I have been extremely frustrated with JAWS in several applications.  Most of them are things I can work around some but Excel is the worse with it stopping speaking or taking 20 to 30 seconds or more to repeat what I typed.  It also stops speaking when I am moving around a spreadsheet to check figures and mark things off.

I have been working with JAWS since sometime in the mid-90s.  I have never been so frustrated as I am now.  Hoping to hear that someone has unlocked the secret to at least Excel.  Also frustrated with no speech during spell check.

Al,

Just to add to the statistics, I'm using Office 2007 on a Windows 7 Pro 32-bit machine. Latest JAWS 2018 build does not exhibit this behavior in Excel 2007. In fact, the 2007 version of Excel has not ever had the problems being reported in JAWS 2018 builds. Sorry that some are having the issue, but there's definitely some influence from the Office version to this problem, as well as with JAWS 2018.\

JAWS Outlook Contacts Help

I have a user that is running into problems with the latest version of Outlook and the latest version of JAWS.  The user views their contacts as business cards so that it reads the contact’s information.  However, as the user moves through the list of contacts, JAWS reads the contact the user just moved off of and not the currently selected contact.   For example, when the user is on Contact 1 and moves to Contact 2, JAWS reads Contact 1 even through Contact 2 is highlighted.  When the user moves to Contact 3, JAWS reads contact 2.   Any ideas would be helpful.

Which version of Windows are you using? It requires Windows 8 or
Windows 10.

Hi All

I've just installed the new JAWS update on my windows 10 desktop and
tried the Screen Shade feature. It reports that it it's on and yet I
don't see any difference on my screen. Has anyone else experienced
this?

Thanks

Debbie

yes, I'm totally sure, I got some light perception on my right eye not enough to distinguish a thing but I made one of my relatives to confirm this feature and now I'm working with screen shade all the time since before  this new feature when I just simply turned off my monitor I hardly could be sure if it really was turnd off.

Re: Losing sound

İ face the same issue with Jaws 18 April update as well. For no
reason and no heavy activity, I lose Jaws.

Something strange started today.  I seem to be losing the sound of my

working fine, as I can read my screen with all apps running with my

my modem.  Any ideas?  Thanks.
