I built my own web site at http://www.comproom.co.uk using Wordpress.

I also offer Wordpress training for those interested, and I am totally blind.

And yes, I have used JAWS and Window-Eyes and NVDA for web development.

I’m curious to know the answer too.  A sighted person, computer tech, told me when we were working on my website last Thursday, “David WordPress is not that accessible for working on a website.  Posting, yes.  But building a website, No.  She is learning a lot working with a screen reader.  She was the one who said what is on the screen for the sighted is not always what your screen reader is reading out to you.  Last week, she had to turn off JAWS because as it was reading out the screen, the curser was moving along like the proverbial ball.  She was not able to take over even though we were using Team viewer, screen sharing.

WordPress is pretty accessible out of the box. One thing I would recommend
is to turn off the visual editor because that will mess with screen readers.
David I would bet that that was one of the things that was messing with
jaws. You need to uncheck the box that says visual editor.
Also some themes can mess with screen readers as well.
To answer the other persons question, no you don't need to know HTML or any
other type of coding as word press covers the basics but if you want to get
more in depth it wouldn't hurt to know son. By in-depth I mean making your
website look nicer. Like say you wanted to make a list with headings at the
top and then a list of items below that. You might need to know some HTML in
order to do that.
I learned the word press on the fly back into thousand nine, but I'm sure if
you Google there will be some beginner tutorials out there somewhere. You
might also check on bard if you have that because I've seen they posted some
books on WordPress from time to time. They should at least have one or two
that can help a blind individual with who is just beginning withWordPress.
Some of the books might be slightly out of date, but they should have some
useful information.

Re: questions on wordpress.

Hi,

This is probably not on topic for this list, but there are severl plugins that let you change the header and footer.

Categories are groups of items that people can search in, for example, your blog may come under News, or Events, or Tech, or several different categories defined by you.

To add to menus is beyond an Email really. You have to go to Menus on your dashboard, then create a menu, then you can add things to it.

I’ve used NoteTab Pro as my primary txt file editor and also my HTML editor for many years with Window-eyes.

Now that I’m using JAWS 18, I’m finding an issue.

When I open a txt file in NoteTab Pro, Jaws doesn’t read anything.

Changed cursors from PC to Jaws doesn’t seem to do anything.

If I unload Jaws with insert+f4 and launch it again while the document is open in NoteTab pro, then it reads just fine.

Anyone have a clue what is going on and what I need to do to have it read fine when I open the file in the first place?

Thanks,

Richard

Re: Bible software for Windows 10

Watch them, though.  My copy of the NAB had several books missing, including every single book that contained only one chapter, and the entire book of acts.  Navigating their stuff is a pleasure, but I found this a rather serious omission.  I first got suspicious when I found their book total to be wrong.

Also, I was looking for a true study Bible, like the print copies I could buy in a bookstore, or like the one I had, but got nothing but the basic text.

Also make sure you get Optasia.org library, as it has all of the translations in many different formats.

Thanks very much for this.

I ought to have been more descriptive.

We need more than one translation, preferably including the NRSV as well as KJV and if possible The Message.

I know much of this can be gotten on line, but having a program on the computer where one can search for and copy verses with chapter and verse numbers is much easier.

Thanks,

Absolutely agree. As a former LAN designer and administrator and security specialist I can tell you that if you use this solution and a bit of common sense you'll be fine. I have four computers running in this house between my self and the wife and children. We are an Internet intensive household running the spectrum from game sites to adult sites and everything in-between and I very rarely run into an issue of virus or now ware infestation using this product.

And you’re not the only IT pro to express that sentiment to me.  I may have to quit procrastinating before long and find another ISP, and the Microsoft combo will probably be my weapon of choice.

A second for Mike B's request!!

Prior to Windows 8, Microsoft Security Essentials was the Microsoft built-in antivirus and Windows Defender was the built-in antimalware.

With the advent of Windows 8 and continuing afterward these two functions were combined into Windows Defender (and Microsoft Security Essentials disappeared).

When it comes to accessible antivirus and/or antimalware, and depending on the era of Windows, you're not going to beat Microsoft Security Essentials coupled with Windows Defender for Windows 7 and earlier or just "the new" Windows Defender for Windows 8 and later.   You will get all kinds of contentious argument that these "aren't adequate" but I have yet to see them be inadequate for anyone who exercises even the least bit of conscientiousness when interacting with the web.

There are no doubt better products depending on what your particular definition of "better" happens to be.  I have yet to hear of any of these having the ease of accessibility of the built-in Microsoft solutions.

She has my complete sympathy.  I’ve been looking since my good old HP bought the farm 3.5  years ago.   Tried Amazon twice and both times got something I didn’t expect and couldn’t use.  This most wonderful Bible study method seems to have fallen into disfavor.  A local Catholic bookstore strongly suggested that I try one of the online solutions suggested year before last on this list, and I’m just about ready to use my debit card and trust them.  I’m reduced to using a plain PDF file I got in 2015.  It’s a shame no one will take your money and sell you a CD.

suggestions/workarounds required for vstfs

Shankar C

Hi all, greetings.
As the subject line says, I need some work arounds for the visuall
studio team server foundation.
Actually, I am using the web version of vstfs to add the questions for
the inspection tool.
When my focus goes on the questions options like, pass/fail, yes/no.
multiple choice, the jaws just reads the text. and, when I press enter
on any options, the options are not getting activated.
In the end of the questions, there is a message displayed saying, To
add double click or drag & drop one of these question types onto the
form.
How can I use dragg and drop feature on the web with jaws.

1 will help me to find the workarounds for above mentioned issues.

Hope some

Hi,

If you can find installers for Theophilos and its add ons it did used to work great however, it’s been absorbed by another software maker whose software is not accessible by their own admission when I inquired sad to say.
