Use dictation to talk instead of type on your PC

Use dictation to convert spoken words into text anywhere on your PC with the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update.

To start dictating, select a text field and press the Windows logo key  + H to open the dictation toolbar. Then say whatever’s on your mind.

If you’re using a tablet or a touchscreen, tap the microphone  button on the touch keyboard to start dictating. Tap it again to stop dictation.

You can also stop dictating at any time by saying “stop dictation.”

Note

Dictation is available in US English only. To use it, your PC needs to be connected to the internet.

To dictate in other languages, use

Windows Speech Recognition.

Re: Jaws Sound Cutting Out

With a sighted person around and a copy of your sound card driver try uninstalling it and letting windows use its default driver. You will have to select the option to delete the software if that is offered. Otherwise it will just reinstall the same driver you are trying to get rid of. It usually works pretty well as it doesn't support all the enhancements.

On 10/23/2017 9:57 AM, Brice Smith wrote:

I think this has something to do with the enhancements/effects, or the
cheap soundcard that comes with the laptop. Tracking and fixing the
problem has always been painful - and I haven't found a universal fix
that works across machines.

With some machines, the enhancements/effects tab of the sound card is
unavailable. Even if this tab is available, you might want to
uninstall and/or reinstall some audio drivers to try and tackle the
problem. The last time this occurred, I uninstalled the Realtek audio
drivers and fixed the problem using the steps here:

Thanks, Randy. I found and disabled the sound effects checkbox in my

sound card properties, but I can't find anything in the jaws setup

wizard about audio ducking. The problem is still occurring. I will

definitely be calling FS back, but if you can give me specific

direction for where to find the checkbox in the meantime, i'd

Re: Jaws Sound Cutting Out

Brice Smith

I've had the problem of JAWS sound intermittently cutting in and out
at the beginning of sentences on multiple laptops.

Even if this tab is available, you might want to
uninstall and/or reinstall some audio drivers to try and tackle the
problem. The last time this occurred, I uninstalled the Realtek audio
drivers and fixed the problem using the steps here:
https://appuals.com/enhancements-tab-missing/

No problem at all, Joseph.

Sometimes all of this stuff and its associated terminology does get confusing.

I still haven't found a fix, so I'm open to any and all suggestions.

To summarize, I'm having problems navigating the list of entries in e-mail groups that I have created.

This is a recently-emerging issue; I used to be able to navigate the e-mail group lists I created with the usual arrow keys.

Am using the latest build of Jaws 18, Windows 7, and Outlook 2016 here.

May end up calling Freedom Scientific if I can't resolve the issue soon.

I was hoping the update would solve a problem that I have been experienceing with e-mail groups in Outlook 2016.

Basically, for the past few months, I have found myself unable to navigate the names in an Outlook 2016 e-mail group via the up and down arrow keys. I used to be able to do this with no problem.

Now, it is very difficult to determine exactly who is in an e-mail group, which, of course, leads to difficulties when trying to update or edit the group.

Has anyone else experienced this issue, and if so, have you found a fix for it?

Again, I’m using Jaws 18.0.4350 with Windows 7 and (Outlook 2016.

sorry if you've already mentioned this, but what version of JAWS are you using?
I think audio ducking is only available in version 18 and up.

"lower the volume of other programs while Jaws is speaking," which I
take to be the same thing. The box is unchecked, but the problem
persists. Any other ideas?

There are some minor items that don't work with jaws but for the most
part VS itself works fine. One of those items (that I am told NVDA
doesn't suffer from) is that in the new project wizard jaws does not
read edit box content if you try and edit it. This introduction to the
product is in no way indicative of the rest of the VS experience.

Re: windows update windows 10

I had a issue with not being able to install a Win 10 update after installing Fall Creator. I tried all kinds of things to resolve the issue and nothing helped. I then decided to use the Windows Media creation tool to burn a DVD of Win 10 and reinstalled Win 10. During the setup screen for installing Win 10 there was a option to check for updates and I did that. There was also a setting for keeping personal data and apps and I made sure that was selected. After the reinstall from the DVD my issue was resolved with not being able to install a particular update, I was running the Fall Creator version of windows and all my installed apps were still working great.

Don’t want to have to reinstall windows 10, that would be over kill.

Have not got any windows defender updates or any thing the last week or two. Last thing I got was the kb 4440 cumlative update.
