i tried posting the following in a form on the blindtunes/do it blind site, but sending it requires verification that i'm not a robot; without an add-on like webvisum and no checkbox saying i'm not a robot, i find this impossible without sighted help. here's what i wrote:

today i spoke with an apple support rep regarding a shortage of storage space on my iphone, and after a series of brick walls trying to restore my iphone, i was prompted to download the latest update to itunes on my windows 7 desktop, which has disabled the accessibility and controllability of earlier versions. i can't find a way, using nvda or jaws, to get to the itunes radio tree view to select favorite stations, like i did before. please advise the version of nvda/jaws/itunes needed to restore itunes' functionality and accessibility with a screenreader, giving access to the different tree views like radio, library, store, etc., plus how to install any necessary scripts. reverting to an earlier itunes version may block any future attempts to restore my iphone. thanks. This may have been posted already so if so I am sorry. But iTUnes 12 sucks for accessibility. For me it did anyways. I am using jaws 2018 and updated itunes to 12. Bad mistake. I found it impossible to navigate or return my views of genre artist song from left to right in that order back from how i had it in itunes11. I reverted back to older itunes11. Also, be sure you keep a backup copy of itunes library folder in case you ever want to go back to whatever version you currently have. Once you update older versions of itunes wont be able to read any library files touched by newer versions of iTUnes. Neweversions corrupt them for older versions. Library folder located c users userName appData roaming apple computers itunes folder. Unhide hidden files and protected protected operating files to find it if you dont type it into the address bar instead. Sorry for length. Just thought someone may find it helpful. Which browser are you using. You’ve probably already said this. With Chrome, I just clicked the link and the file itself was downloaded, so if you’re using Chrome, there’s a setting needing changing.

The problem is, Brian, that when I click the link, it doesn’t directly download. It automatically opens Adobe Reader DC, and puts the file into that app without first saving it in my downloads or documents folder.

By the way, even if a PDF file is opened within the browser, it must be downloaded to the local machine itself into a temp folder somewhere before that happens. That's why you can then save it elsewhere if you so choose. But things that get thrown into these locations are constantly being deleted as other stuff needs the space.
Even the file that opens for you in Adobe Reader DC can be saved out of Adobe Reader DC if you want a copy. -- Brian - Windows 10 Home, 64-Bit, Version 1809, Build 17763 Explanations exist; they have existed for all time; there is always a well-known solution to every human problem — neat, plausible, and wrong. ~ H.L. Re: Saving an pdf file
Bill,
I assure you, it is directly downloading it, but into a temp folder somewhere. The file cannot possibly open in Adobe Reader DC until and unless it is resident somewhere on your system's hard disk drive (or SSD equivalent). The behavior you describe is entirely characteristic when you have tweaked your web browser to open PDF files using the system viewer, as that will override what would be "the usual procedure" when a PDF target is detected. That target will be downloaded to a system TEMP folder somewhere and then promptly opened with the system PDF viewer, which must be Adobe Reader DC in this case. There may even be a browser that would allow you to set specific file types to be opened by specific other programs that are NOT the ones chosen as the defaults under Windows 10, but I don't personally have any experience with any that do. With the very rarest of exceptions, as corruptions can come into existence, these sorts of behaviors are the result of the interaction between settings that the end user, or someone who is/was their agent, set themselves. -- Brian - Windows 10 Home, 64-Bit, Version 1809, Build 17763 Explanations exist; they have existed for all time; there is always a well-known solution to every human problem — neat, plausible, and wrong. ~ H.L. Bill,
I should also have mentioned that most "non-automatic download" links for files will have the actual file name as the last part of the URL. Google Drive, where I store stuff like the step-by-step instruction sets I frequently post, doesn't. -- Brian - Windows 10 Home, 64-Bit, Version 1809, Build 17763 Explanations exist; they have existed for all time; there is always a well-known solution to every human problem — neat, plausible, and wrong. ~ H.L. Re: Saving an pdf file
Bill,
That's because that link is a fully automated download link. The end user needs do nothing more than click on it to have the PDF file that is ahead of the final '/download' part of that link download to their machine simply by activating it. I supply this sort of link all the time, e.g., Adding Desktop Shortcuts Under Windows 10. If you look at the actual URL for this it contains the word "download" in the URL and that's generally (almost universally, actually) an indication that activating said link will trigger a direct download. In some cases you'll get a Save As dialog if your web browser is set to ask you where you want to put any file you download and in others it will go directly to Downloads or whatever folder you've specified as your download location if set to do that. The person who set up the sourceforge page, https://sourceforge.net/projects/linuxcommand/, which is the root page on which the download link you gave and several others are found, really did not know how to create a well-designed page where links that trigger downloads would have used click through text to indicate that's what would happen. The link you provided, if following good practice, would be listed on the page as, Download TLCL-17.10.pdf, or something very similar, just like I did in the middle of this sentence. -- Brian - Windows 10 Home, 64-Bit, Version 1809, Build 17763 Explanations exist; they have existed for all time; there is always a well-known solution to every human problem — neat, plausible, and wrong. ~ H.L. Re: Pontes Media Downloader and JAWS
Bill White <billwhite92701@...>
There is no option for changing the conversion from 128KBPS to 320KBPS in Pontes Media Downloader. This is because, when you get a file from Youtube, the fidelity isn’t higher than 128KBPS at the start, so changing the bitrate wouldn’t improve the fidelity.

Is there a way to change the bit rate of downloading MP3 files? When I download a audio file from You Tube, Pontes converts it to MP3 at 120 bps. I would like it to convert to 320 bps, but I can't seem to find the option for changing this.

Hi, Brian. Below is the link to the Linux book. It is a pdf file, and if you click the link, it opens the pdf. If I just press ENTER on the link, it opens in Adobe Reader DC. If I try to do a Save Target As, it wants to save the resulting file as an html. Below is the link.

This use to happen to me with IE and that is why I switched to Crome, but

web-applicaties and markers with jaws 2018
William Windels
hello all,
I discover some strange problems with jaws-marckers in the last versions of mozilla firefox and google chrome. when jumping with letter "k" to the available marckers on the current page, some are reached correctly as difined while others are not reached with the letter "k""" both groups of markers (reachable or unreachable) can be used when opening the marckers-menu with ctrl shift k, then select the specific marcker and i chose goto. all marckers are setup with the checkbox for the whole domain and are linked to text. the checkbox for the whole domain is set because the web-application is a kind of ticket-manager for helpdesc-tickets. the webapplications are itrp/4me and jira. questions: 1: what could be the reason some markers can't be aactivated with "k" and some not? 2: what can i do/test to determine the problem? 3: if possible, is there a fix to add/adjust marckers so that this should also work with letter "k"? many thx for any info/help. william windels Verstuurd vanaf mijn iPhone

No. You cannot add quality to an MP3 file by increasing the bit resolution.
You can make it worse, but not better.

JAWS goes mute when Google Crom not responding
Marty Hutchings
Just now, when I tried to go to this site to post another topic, Google Crome hung when this page opened and JAWS went silent. When I switch to the JAWS curser, navigating with arrow keys only gets me "Blank". If I hit Control+Home, I get to the top of the page and then JAWS goes mute for both cursers. I then try to Alt+Tab to another ap and still I get nothing. After a while, JAWS will say something and then I will Alt+Tab to Google Crome and Maybe JAWS will say "Google Crom not responding". I am using JAWS 18, Windows 7 andthe latest Crome. Has anyone else experienced this?
