Re: Two More Problems With Jaws 2019 and Outlook 2016

Hi, Kevin. This doesn't work in Windows 10. Instead:

1. Open Control Panel.
2. SHIFT TAB once to the tab categories.
3. Right Arrow once to the View tab.
4. TAB a couple of times to the Advanced tree view.
5. Press the letter S about five times until you hear Show Preview Handlers
in Preview Pane.
6. Space until this option is off.
7. TAB to the Apply button, and press ENTER.
8. TAB again to the OK button, and press ENTER.

Now the Show Preview Handlers in Preview Pane option will be turned off.

The previous instructions worked in Windows 7, but not now in Windows 10.

The phonetic thing is actually a new feature.
It’s meant to help out folks who may have hearing issues or would like
a little more help with distinguishing between letters. This feature is
also present in the iOS platform.
You can go into Jaws settings and adjust the delay for when the
phonetic pronunciation is spoken or disable it all together.

Hello, again, everyone.

I have discovered two more problems with Jaws
2019 and Outlook 2016 on my Windows 7 laptop.

When I use the insert numpad 2 command to read an entire message, Jaws
skips parts of lines. I can read the complete lines by arrowing down
through the message, but, as you can imagine, this gets quite cumbersome.

In addition, I have noticed that Jaws now gives phonetics for the first
letter of a word when I navigate through a message that I’m composing,
and I also notice that Jaws sometimes speaks the last character I type
again after several seconds.

I seem to recall someone else having similar issues but am not sure how
or whether they got resolved.

Thanks for any assistance.

Starting on the logon screen, the shortcut Windows+ctrl+enter will work if it is set up, but not if it isn't. So if you try the shortcut on the logon screen and nothing happens, try this:

1. Press ctrl+escape to get to the start menu.
2. Type Windows+r (run)
3. Type "narrator" and press enter.

Once you have Narrator running, tinker with the settings. Be sure the 'use shortcut key' is checked. If you want narrator to start automatically on the logon screen, check that setting. There is also a setting to start Narrator automatically after logon, which can be checked.

The list of Narrator shortcut keys will display when you press capslock+f1.

Hi. I'm using JAWS 2019 on Windows 10 Pro. At times when opening a JAWS dialog I often will hear JAWS announce the full version number of the JAWS program before I hear the prompt of the dialog which I am expecting. This version information is the same information you will hear if you open the JAWS window and press insert+up arrow to read the current line. It does not happen often and so it is very difficult to reproduce. Has anybody else noticed this issue?

Hi Steve,

I'm sorry for assuming that you're running IE11,
I should of asked what browser you're running
from the start. If you're running Firefox or
Chrome, I don't know about other browsers, but
these 2 don't have the options in the quick settings I described.

Take care. Mike. Go Rams!

Bill,
I did that, but I also used the Ninite installer.
It all worked fine.
I was not at the most current version of Firefox.

Slight ot, mike, you say that you see the options under ff 62 with jaws 18 and older and don't with jaws 16.
My question is, can firefox 60 and newer be used with jaws jaws version 18? that is versions lower than 2018?
 Thanks!

I have interviewed for a job that will use a software package called CDK clm.  Has anyone used that with JAWS?  Any help would be appreciated.

I thought there was some checkbox I needed to check or uncheck to go beyond the ESR version.

I guess it is called Quantum?

Now thereby hangs another tale. Everybody tells me the latest FF is 63 something. Mine says 60.3.0, and no matter how many times I try to update it, I am told my Firefox is up to date.

If you are in the U.S., and you’d like me to see what’s going on, you may call me.

Hi Steve,

I'm sorry for assuming that you're running IE11, I should of asked what browser you're running from the start.  If you're running Firefox or Chrome, I don't know about other browsers, but these 2 don't have the options in the quick settings I described.

Take care.  Mike.  Go Rams!

What method are you using to make your selection?

I’m not sure I ever had Jaws say anything about from and to, but I’ve only really been using Jaws since version 18, for a few months, then 2018 and now 2019.

Hi!

In JAWS 2019 using MS Word 2016, when I make a large selection it does not say a short phrase of the “from” and “to” of the selection.  For example, if I selected an entire paragraph that started with “See spot run” and ended with “ball is blue,” these phrases used to be spoken as the “from” and “to” selection along with the total number of characters within the selection.  In earlier versions of MS Word and JAWS, this behavior was consistent, but not any longer in JAWS 2019 with MS Word 2016.

Is anyone else noticing this?  Has, or should, this been reported to the JAWS bug fix cue?

Thanks,

Richard

Yes, I am using Firefox. Ah, now that does put the kibosh on things now, doesn't it! I assumed--wrongly so, apparently--that Firefox would have this, too.
