Re: MathML Web version? Accessible? #jaws

It hasn’t been mentioned on the blindmath list, which is where accessible mathematics-related tools are discussed. I would suggest subscribing there.

Trying it with Chrome OS and ChromeVox might be worthwhile, but my suspicion is that there are issues either with the software or with how you’re using it.

Hi everyone. Looking for some help. I have a student with JAWS2019 and we were trying the MathML equation editor add-on for Google Docs. According to their website, it is a fully accessible equation editor that works with Google Docs and screenreaders but we have been running into challenges. First it creates the equation as an object with Alt-Text. I inserted the fraction 3 over 2 as an example. The alt-text title box has "3 over 2" but the description box has crazy code gibberish "<math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mfrac><mn>3</mn><mn>3</mn></mfrac></math>" which JAWS 2019 instead of the title. Is there a way for JAWS2019 to read ONLY the title and ignore the description?

Thanks, Greg

4. Press SHIFT plus TAB twice to get to the list of Options categories.
5. Down Arrow once to get to the Home category.

Sorry about the delay in getting back to you.

You can hit the applications key which is usually the key just left of the right control key.  Then arrow down to Junk.  Hit enter and it will give you options including adding the sender to the block senders list.

Latest Skype and JAWS?

Jim Portillo

Hello,

I’ve not used Skype for a while, as I’ve been using Zoom more. However, I will now have to use Skype with someone. I’ve upgraded to the latest Desktop version but wonder how well JAWS works with it. Is there a list of the most common JAWS commands that anyone has or knows how to find? I’d appreciate getting such a list.
Thanks.

For some reason I don’t have either the time or the energy to figure out just at the moment, the preview videos played fine in chrome, but the actual videos for the course did not. IE, however, chomps ‘em down like gangbusters. Don’t ask me why, but that’s my limited experience. Have not yet tested with firefox, as Firefox does not like the, ahem, workaround I need to employ to be able to do it from work.

Interestingly interesting. I’ve had reasonable success getting videos to play nice using latest IE and JAWS 18. The player itself takes some, er, creative navigating, but once autoplay’s turned off it’s actually tolerable. What parts of it gave you issues, out of curiosity?

How do you unblock a sender?  Or, check your blocked senders list.  Like with the old Skype, sometimes you have to re-visit your blocked senders list because it is out dated.

Looking for a jaws-friendly mindmap app

Delaunay Christophe

Hi all,

In order to write down thought during brainstorming, (collaborative or not), I am looking for some jaws-friendly mind mapper.

I tried FreePlane, (https://www.freeplane.org/wiki/index.php/Home), but I did not feel lucky enough with it since jaws keeps really poor track of the mind map editing in FreePlane.

Does anyone know a good FreePlane equivalent which is more accessible please?

Many thanks in advance. Have a nice day. Chris D

Re: Keyboard arrow Echo in JAWS 19

Bill White <billwhite92701@...>

Hi, Barbara. I believe it is JAWS 2019 you installed. To turn off Phonetic announcements,

1. Press JAWS key plus six on the numbers row, just above the letter Y.
2. Press CONTROL plus SHIFT plus D to load the default JAWS configuration.
3. Type the following letters with no spaces between them:

p h o

4. Arrow down through the search results looking for the words

When pausing after character navigation, speak character phonetically

5. Tap the space bar until you hear the word Never.
6. TAB to the OK button, and press ENTER.

Now, as you arrow through a document and pause, you will no longer hear the phonetic announcements.

Hi Everyone,

I installed JAWS 19 on a Windows 7 computer and a Windows 10 laptop. I have not tested this on the laptop yet, but on the Windows 7 computer, I get an echo using the arrow keys.

Example. I use the right arrow and it lands on the letter b. After a few seconds I hear bravo. This is a minor thing, but I would like to turn that off. Any ideas how?

Thanks in advance for any help.
