I like the new edge, but firefox murders it for customization. So if you’re the type that likes to tweak your browsing experience, firefox, otherwise the new edge dev is really stable, and I could recommend it. There’s also the edge beta channel. I tried Chrome for a bit when I had Android, but I find I don’t need the sync features anymore since I don’t really browse the web on mobile anyway, because I just don’t like touch screens that much, and I don’t need to be constantly signed into google services. But if you need google services extensively, then chrome is great. I haven’t found much that doesn’t work with Firefox, at least nothing that doesn’t work off the top of my head, so I wouldn’t worry too much about compatibility, but if you care about monopolies, or privacy or customization or keyboard shortcuts, then firefox is probably still winning for you. Hopefully this helps out a bit.

Depends on what you mean by works best. Chrome-based browsers
seem to have fewer compatibility issues on webpages. I prefer
Brave myself, it blocks ads without you having to install
anything.
As far as best access for menus and controlling the browser goes, though, Firefox wins hands down.

It doesn’t hurt to mention that FS will be holding a webinar on Chrome this Wednesday, September 5 at noon Eastern, then another one two weeks later. Those webinars are recorded, so you don’t have to attend in person. Meanwhile, my next book, Get Cracking with Chrome for Windows, is outlined. Some production would have happened by now, but I’m allowing the excuse of the possible impending hurricane to distract me.

When the new version of Microsoft Edge is officially released, I expect it will be at least as good as Chrome. Right now, Edge is being replaced by a new version, so I wouldn’t use it. I agree with Chrome, and haven’t had good luck with FireFox but haven’t given it much of a chance. Chrome just pretty much works.

I switched to Chrome ages ago and wouldn’t go back if you paid me. I still keep IE around because some of the websites I use at work don’t play nice with anything else, but for anything that matters, it’s Chrome, Firefox if something trips out, or IE if there’s something they haven’t quite figured out how to properly read/interact with in Chrome yet.

Dear Seighar & List: I meant excel stores the date internally in a firm that seems to make sense to the developers of Excel yes, you can format the date many ways.
All spreadsheets have internal date formats that make sense to their developers.
One point I am not familiar with is whether any spreadsheets have a common date format should you ever want to Import dates from a different spreadsheet, such as from Quatro Pro into Excel. Brian K. Lingard

What do you mean by “Microsoft has its own whacky internal date format”? How a date is displayed in Excel is entirely up to what you select it to be, here are some examples of today’s date:

Good afternoon all; perhaps someone can help me. this is from one of my clients.
I wonder if you had a suggestion about a problem, I am having with excel. I have gone through all of the help info with no luck at all. I don’t know if you can help but here it is. Excel does not recognize date formats as numbers only as text. When I enter a date in a date column, I need it to be recognized as a date in order to sort them to put them in order. I have no luck in using the date value or value function getting an error that my formula is wrong. I have gone on the internet and have had no luck with support.microsoft.com and it isn’t a disability issue for Microsoft accessibility help. Is there something I am missing? Do you have any suggestions ?

Sounds like he maybe installed an older version. I know that if you wanted to use Codex, you had to use an older installer where accessibility was pretty bad, so maybe that’s what he is trying to do? I got my sighted wife’s help to get past that barrier when I installed it on my machines back in the day.

Hmmm, are you sure you got the program you need? I didn't remember having to seek out a special version last time I downloaded it, it just saw jaws running took it from there, I think. You might also want to reboot and try again if you haven't done that. I just looked in the tools/ options menu on mine and it read fine.

Hi!
I am using JAWS 2019 on a Windows 7 PC. Recently, I downloaded and installed this app. However, it does not seem to be nearly as accessible as I had hoped. For example, I seem even to have trouble “registering” it at that screen under its “tools>options” menu where seemingly none of the buttons are accessible. Am I missing something? Is there any particular JAWS setting(s), or perhaps scripts, for it? Is there somewhere I can read about how to use this app? Does anyone have some tips to share about it?

I still think you should try spinrite, if your drive has failed, but
if the system does no longer see it, then you are out of luck. You will need DOS software to use it, but it still works well. Brian, I totally agree with you about web sites. I even took a class in web development. This gave me a much better idea of what to tell owners of a web site what is wrong and what would help correct the issues. No I’m not an expert and anything helps. What I found during the class is two web sites that work with individuals that are disabled. Neither sites follow the 508C and WCAG standards. One of the sites has links to pages that don’t exist. I tried to help the one site and they didn’t want any input. This site’s web developer has a disability in which he has limitted use of his hands. Soon he won’t be able to use a mouse. I will keep providing my input and hope something happens.

using. If it is a hard phone that you need to use, there is really only one choice, and that is a dual channel headset made by Plantronics. If I remember correctly, the model number is 1783. If you are using a soft phone set up, you can use a USB headset. I recommend a Logitech headset which we use where I work.

I suffered the same issue many years ago and I learnt then to never never ever use an external drive as my sole data point for any files unless I was happy to lose them. I backup now on 2 drives and the cloud as well for the data I most value. If it is drive failure rather than accidental deletion I fear that your only option would be to submit your physical drive to a specialist data recovery company who could do a sector by sector data recovery. This would cost however and it may be just be cheaper and more practical to try and recreate your lost data from other sources. I hope that somebody else may be able to point you to accessible sector recovery tools but I do not think that they are straightforward as data may be spread all across your disc and it may be a mammoth task to recreate mp3 data files from various parts of your disc sector.
