I suppose one could buy 8.1 on eBay and just use
the new key.
That might cost around 25 dollars.

No matter how you go about it, you can install
windows 8 using WinPE, which uses NVDA, not Narrator.
You need to match the installer to the types of
windows.
There are about half a dozen types of windows 7,
and the mega.ISO of WinPE has the .WIM files for the various types of
windows.

I have the following questions:
Did you upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 8 or 8.1.
If you did, did the Windows 7 authorization key, also
authorize versions of Windows 8 or, did you need
to purchase a new authorization key for versions of Windows 8;
If you had Windows 7 installed but, you decided to
install a new installation of Windows 8 or 8.1, were you able to use the

Were you able to install Windows 8 or 8.1 yourself

If you installed Windows 8 or 8.1 yourself, was
Narrator available to you, to assist you through the installation process;
and
If Narrator was not available, how didyou install

I have suggested they upgrade to Windows 10 but,
they are adament, they want Windows 8.

Re: Question regarding installing a new installation of Windows 8/8.1
Hi, Actually, one can upgrade from Windows 7 to 8/8.1 through an in-place upgrade unless the product key is for a different edition. I concur with Brian: Windows 8.1 support ends in 2023, and beyond that point, Windows 10 is the way to go. This begs the question: did your friend tell you their reasons for not upgrading to Windows 10 for free? Cheers, Joseph

The only free upgrade path was from Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 to Windows 10. Personally, unless they're paying you, I'd refuse to install Windows 8.1 at this point. It makes absolutely no sense to do so. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 1909, Build 18363 The purpose of education is not to validate ignorance but to overcome it. |

Osara is being updated and distributed. ReAccess is loooong gone. And the latter ist he foundation for the Reaper course. That said, there is a pretty comprehensive wiki, and the mailing list can help if you have questions -- it's called 'Reapers without peepers" and is here on groups.io. Audacity is maybe a little trickier than goldwave, but it's also a multitrack editor, which could be useful, depending on your needs. -----Original Message-----

I don't have a particular program for doing this in mind yet, but I have heard that audacity is the most accessible. I did try to follow the guide but I found that I could not edit with it and it was overwhelming for me. I did some research online and I see that Brian Hartgen has a course for Reaper but it seems that the packages for Osara and Reaaccess are not being distributed any longer. Does anyone know of a course or guide of some kind that can be followed? Thank you in advance. |

I'm not sure about the Goldwave one; I suspect it is ok because that programme and accessibility methods have not changed much, but the Reaper one is seriously out of date. The accessibility structure/plugin for Reaper is not even the same, now (Osara instead of ReAccess).

If you want to learn to use goldwave -- the manual is a great place to start. There are also some free resources you can use, plus a forum. Reaper has a mailing list on which many experts post. You can contact me off list if you want -- Reaper's presented me with some serious challenges but I'm pretty conversant with Goldwave. -----Original Message-----

Did you ever think that your teacher was wrong, and that no one has ever corrected you. If you took the time to check a dictionary you would see that menue is not in it. Or are you right and the Oxford dictionary wrong? I didn’t assume I was wrong because myself and those I asked have never heard of menu being spelt with an e on the end, I took the time to check a dictionary. https://www.lexico.com/search?utf8=%E2%9C%93&filter=en_dictionary&dictionary=en&query=menue Why cant you just take a piece of humble pie and admit you were wrong this time?

Doug Lee's scripts at least give you a few shortcuts for checking where you are in a file, the length of the file, etc. While the GoldWave manual is very involved, it is well worth reading the sections on what you are interested in accomplishing. A couple helpful keystrokes are pressing left bracket drops a start marker, pressing right bracket drops a finish marker. Control C cuts that piece out, or control t trims off the stuff before and after the markers. Control p pastes the clipboard into a new file.
