The right answer here is forget about it.  Last time I messed with reinstalling 8, I could never get it to upgrade to 8.1, which left it an insecure mess.  Sometimes you just have to say no, and this is one of those.

For those on this list, who used Windows 8 or 8.1, I have the following questions:

 

Did you upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 8 or 8.1. If you did, did the Windows  7 authorization  key, also authorize versions of Windows 8 or, did you need to purchase a new authorization key for versions of Windows 8;

 

If you had Windows 7 installed but, you decided to install a new installation of Windows 8 or 8.1, were you able to use the windows 7 key, to authorize versions of Windows 8.

 

Were you able to install Windows 8 or 8.1 yourself or, did you have visual assistance;

 

If you installed Windows 8 or 8.1 yourself, was Narrator available to you, to assist you through the installation process; and

 

If Narrator was not available, how didyou install Windows 8 or 8.1 yourself, without visual assistance.

 

I have suggested they upgrade to Windows 10 but, they are adament, they want Windows 8.

I don't think anyone knows when the next JAWS update will be released. It will be when Vispero has enough bugs fixed to make it worth it to release an update, and when they are fairly sure the "fixes" work on a wide range of system configurations.

There is no upgrade path from Windows 7 to Windows 8, and never has been.   It must be installed from scratch, and you must acquire a license key for it.

The only free upgrade path was from Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 to Windows 10.

Personally, unless they're paying you, I'd refuse to install Windows 8.1 at this point.  It makes absolutely no sense to do so.

There's not a shortcut command for getting the access code for accessing someone elses  computer.  Press, Insert + J, then press the letter, U, to open Utilities, then press enter on, submenu Jaws Tandem, press enter on submenu Tandem center, press enter on Get access to a computer ..., and now press enter on, Get access button, to get the access code.

Just in case JAWS 2020 is not loading correctly, ask your friend, to unload JAWS, then, reload JAWS.

 

Remember, your friend may not be able to perform the INSERT+CTRL+ALT+T, JAWS command to go straight to the tandom window, where they need to enter the meeting ID code. In that case, following the steps in my previous email, might be a better way for your friend, to get to that window.

It looks like the person who installed JAWS on her computer, set JAWS to be minimized to the Task Tray. When this is done, when someone presses ALT+TAB, to cycle through the open windows,  the JAWS window is not displayed.

Suggest to her that she do the following:

1. Press WINDOWS KEY+M, to go to the desktop.

2. If JAWS 2020 is the only version of JAWS installed on the machine, press the letter J, to highlight JAWS. If there is more than 1 version installed, keep pressing the letter J, until, JAWS 2020 is spoken.

3. press ENTER. The JAWS Context Window opens, and the first option in that window, is "options".

4. Tap the DOWN ARROW once, to highlight "Utilities".

5. tap the RIGHT ARROW 3 times, JAWS will say, "Allow access to my computer"...

6. Press ENTER. The meeting ID window is opened. After speaking some text, JAWS will say, "Meeting ID, edit". She needs to enter the meeting ID you give her, followed by pressing the ENTER key, to start the Tandom session.

I've not taken Brian's course, but my friend said his scripts come with the course.
Doug Lee's scripts at least give you a few shortcuts for checking where you are in a file, the length of the file, etc.
While the GoldWave manual is very involved, it is well worth reading the sections on what you are interested in accomplishing.
A couple helpful keystrokes are pressing left bracket drops a start marker, pressing rHello.

ight bracket drops a finish marker.
Control C cuts that piece out, or control t trims off the stuff before and after the markers.
Control p pastes the clipboard into a new file.

blending separate channels, etc.
But for straight editing, it is all keyboard based and Doug lee's scripts
are enough to get you going, but I believe Brian has more advanced scripts
that come along with the course.
GoldWave is $50 to purchase, but the trial version is fully functional so
you can be sure it works for you before buying a license.
He is also working on an iOS app which will be able to use the same
license.
A friend took his course on Goldwave and speaks highly of it.
