I made sure the status bar was enabled but Jaws wont read it with insert plus pgdn. I can see it with the Jaws cursor so it is there. and the count matches what Jaws and NVDA were telling me.

We all need to report this to FS if it is happening to you.

It very 8definitely* shows the complete count of items in the folder for me. I just verified again by opening a folder with over 4000 items. They are counted correctly. And, I’m a little skeptical because I honestly can’t really see the point in having a line that only shows the number of items displayed on the screen rather than the total count.

Maybe it depends on the view of the folder that’s set?

Tom,

If insert-pagedown is working for you, that’s what’s supposed to happen. However, for a lot of folders, that count measures only the number of files shown in a screen. It doesn’t show the number of files in the folder, which is often much larger. The method I described, which I learned from Rebecca on the closed JAWS list, enables JAWS users to get both the screen and the folder count.

It seems to me there was a solution to this little problem, but I can’t remember it. JAWS 2019 in Windows 10 gives inaccurate counts of files.  It will report that a given file is 1 of 25, when in fact there are many more than 25 files in the folder. I have changed the item type of the folder, to no avail. NVDA does this fine. The file is maximized. Is there a known fix?

There's no way anyone can really answer this, as it depends entirely on whether you use any online apps or websites that use Java.

I would uninstall the Java Runtime Environment from Control Panel, Programs & Features then see how things go.  If you do end up needing Java for something you can just download and reinstall it again, which is what you'll do anyway if you wish to try to resolve this issue.

Here is a general idea of what to do.
1. Open up settings center.
2. search for modify
3.  click modify scheme
4. Create a new scheme and then edit it.
5. Change the tab to controls There will be a list of about 90 controls. For each control you can ignore, speak with standard speech, speak with a different voice alias or play a wav sound.
I don't know how to add new voice aliases to the list of voices listed there, but I can't imagine it being too difficult.
I only checked by changing button to play buzzer.wav and indeed the word button was replaced with a misspelling like buzzer sound.
I would love to see a sound scheme that replaced button and link and slider wit appropriate wav files.

Windows+u merely brings up the Ease of Access Center (and then it's
alt+n to start Narrator), but the same keystroke does not turn off
Narrator. I don't think there is a keystroke to turn on and off Narrator
in Windows 7. there should be a Narrator dialog that has an Exit button,
which once "pressed", brings up another dialog asking if the user is
sure they want to turn off Narrator.

Hello-

Thanks for the help!  I finally got it shut off, but control windows key
and enter did not work.  I use Windows 7 home and JFW 2019 latest
version, so maybe that command is different. for Windows 7 users  It was
really a frustrating situation!!!

I thought I’d try narrator to see if I could get Jaws to tell the

narrator.  What is the key combo to shut off narrator???  Thanks

Hey Yall,

First of all I would like to thank those who assisted me in trying to fix my database connection problem for my local environment. With that being said, I posted my question to a Facebook group and was told to move from Wamp to Laragon.

I installed Laragon and my database connection problem was solved. So, I am sharing this with those of you who are looking for an accessible Windows server software. As stated, I installed it and the installation process as well as the software is accessible.

You can download Laragon at www.laragon.org.

Hope this helps.

With Jaws and with Chrome open, bring up quick settings with Jaws Key + V, type "copy" in the search box and tab once, you should hear this:

Select and Copy Full content using onscreen highlight

Press the spacebar and it should change to read like this:

Select and Copy from Virtual Cursor

Try this and see if it helps with copying from websites.

Hi Dean,
Thanks
Well yes I face the same trouble while copying in chrome while using NVDA.

It would be enlightening to know if you have the same problems copying
from web pages if you tried it with NVDA or with a demo copy of JAWS 2019.

With Chrome open, you can hold down Insert and press F1 quickly to get
all that JAWS help has to offer about using Chrome, including lots of
keystrokes.

Hi all,
I use JAWS 2018, the latest google chrome and Win 10.
I face challenges:
1. Each time I login to Gmail, I am required to select "Basic HTML
view": In IE, once chosen, this doesn't have to be done everytime.
2. I can't seem to copy stuff from certain web pages: The same happens
in IE.
3. Any list of key commands to ensure better use of JAWS and Google chrome.
Thanks
Best
