I don't really either, David. I didn't think it was "ownership" eitehr as such but some kind of agreed-upon partnership between all these companies. But in the end, it hardly seems to matter for international customers.

I personally have recently dealt with them at Optelec Canada back in this past October, who are located just outside Montreal to get a jaws upgrade to the latest version of jaws and found them to have really good customer service-they got back to me right away with what I thought was a really fair, comparable price. I haven't dealt with Frontier in a long time. Way before the CNIB association, they were pretty dependable, if, I thought, somewhat overpriced at times. Good equipmenta nd support, for usre. Now though? I don't know. Them not answering correspondence is not a good sign. I deal with Optilech more recently and they were slow, but they got the job done. They sent me my JAWS license in an un-ocred image PDF file, which I thought was pretty funny.

Re: Changed Outlook Contacts Behavior

Gary Ray here.
I am experiencing the same changed behavior.
It is terrible.
From: main@jfw.groups.io <main@jfw.groups.io> On Behalf Of Tom Behler
Sent: Sunday, December 6, 2020 5:18 PM To: jfw list <jfw@groups.io> Subject: Changed Outlook Contacts Behavior
Hello, everyone.
Today, I just noticed that the behavior of my Outlook contacts list has changed.
As of a few days ago, I was able to hit enter on a contact, and get relevant information such as that contact’s e-mail address by simply tabbing over to the e-mail address field. Now, I have to go to something called the SMT address page to get this information.
In addition, I recently was very happy that the issue of easily navigating the list of members in an e-mail group via the arrow keys had been resolved, but now, it appears that this navigation is no longer possible once again.
Perhaps an update of some kind has changed things.
I’d like to know if others now experience these issues, and if there are any immediate solutions or work-arounds.

Changed Outlook Contacts Behavior
Tom Behler

Re: upgrading Jaws
Don Walls
Yes, you're correct. Canadian Assistive Technology used to be Aroga. So Canadians have the choice of buying software upgrades from Canadian Assistive Technology in Vancouver or Humanware in Quebec.

Re: upgrading Jaws
Sieghard Weitzel <sieghard@...>
Sorry, but I don't think that is correct information. An SMA covers two upgrades so at best Madision would have to buy 2 SMA's with the first covering the upgrade to 2019 and 2020 and the second would cover ythe upgrade to Jaws 2021 and one upgrade would remain to cover next year's Jaws 2022 update. After the update next fall she would again have to buy an SMA to cover Jaws 2023 and Jaws 2024.

But instead of all this guessing, it would simply be best if she contacted Ryan at Canadian Assistive Technologies whose email David provided. -----Original Message-----

Re: upgrading Jaws
Sieghard Weitzel <sieghard@...>
Of course the exchange rate would have to be factored into a Canadian version of the subscription as it is with most things. After all, a SMA here in Canada is also more in Canadian Dollars than it is in US Dollars but similar with the exchange rate factored in. Currently the Canadian equivalent of $90 US is about $120 and if Vispero could offer a subscription for that price that would still be pretty good for many users.

The thing is too, even if it was available in Canada there is the exchange rate. There was a program on using word press on a SD card. The cost for it was $119. By the time the currency exchange rate kicked in, it was close to $159.

Hello,
I admit I don’t know how JAWS purchase works in Canada, but in the US, if you fall behind several years in purchasing upgrades as you have, it is preferable to buy annual licenses instead. Last I checked this was $90 US. Much cheaper than an initial outlay of over $400 to get yourself up to date. I would assume, but do not know, that the annual license option is available in Canada.
Hope this helps, David |
