If said computer is so unimportant and cheap and you have so many others like it then why not simply stick with Windows 7 on it, then you have iE and you don't have to worry about updates.

And as I think it was pointed out in the article, Edge has an IE mode for old websites. In any case, if IE actually goes away for good and somebody who hasn't updated their website to a newer standard
