Man, I don't know what happened, but it had to be really BIOS- or hardware-specific, but it was real! We swapped out the batteries, and were at our wits end, when I decided to do the obvious and undo

I have used MSE on my XP laptop for some time and had no problems.
I now use MSE on myW7 HP 64 bit laptop and it works quite well.

Just one caveat. I think my experience was fairly unique, but Essentials totally disabled the keyboard on my HP, running XP. It was so bad, I needed sighted assistance uninstalling it. I never

I would suggest Security Essentials from Microsoft but it does not work on
Windows 8. alternately, Windows 8 does come with a modified version of MSE
which is compatible with Windows 8 and is called

Ok, for backing up files and creating a system image there's windows 7 file
recovery in the control panel of windows 8. Also as for antivirus, I use
viper although windows defender comes with windows
