Do you need the escape key in order to get out of the weird opening view??? Here are a couple of set up notes from CathyAnne Murtha's Word 2013 textbook that will hopefully make the escape key

After you open Word, press escape.
Then alt-f. You will be on the ribbon
You may already be on open, but if you arrow up and down, you will find
open.
Tab to recent.
Tab again to the list of

Yes, that is what I want to do in a way. I want to see the documents with
all the edits, but have Jaws read it as a seamless documents. I can't tell
now what has been inserted, deleted and by whom.

and navigating the spell checker is probably the biggest of these problems.

A couple points... First the "D" is only relevant for PDF documents. Second,
there are two other letters - S for screen and C for Control (i.e. button,
label, etc.).
