I think all you need do is find the jaws install file and run it. If you don't have it, find out what version you are running, download the install file and run it.

I also use NVDA as my backup for JAWS. There are many work-arounds for most issues.

Really Gerald. Can we lay off of the attacks please. It was a suggestion. I personally use NVDA to tell me what is going on when JAWS quits for no reason. I did not know that you could set Narrator

Set naraitor to only run at log on and shutdown and it will tell you the log on info and it will say logging off when shutting down and will not speek anywhere els after logging in

I have two ways of knowing my laptop has shut down. I can press on the cd player, and if it opens, the laptop is still on. Also, my external speaker makes a sound when the laptop shuts

Or, instead of buying such a device, plug in your iPhone or whatever you have, just make sure you don't use the port which many computers now have and which can charge even with the laptop turned off.

And even in Windows 7 I had situations where the shut-down sound played and then one of my sighted employees or my wife said the computer had not powered down because of some message which Jaws didn't
