Not necessarily, my first router from years ago continued to get firmware updates for quite a while after they stopped selling it. I forgot which brand it was.

The only problem with using a discontinued router would be the lack of security updates.

Hello Dave,
You can connect to RouterOS via the API, FTP, SSH, Telnet, WinBox, or WebFig. I SSH in which is accessible. I can’t speak for the other methods. I could try WinBox and WebFig later

Even if the router isn't being sold any more, I'll bet you can find one on eBay.

I forgot to mention, The EE router, does have a web interface but, as I said before, there are buttons which are not standard HTML buttons, which is why JAWS will not recognize them.

Do the graphic buttons show up in JAWS as graphics? If so you could use the graphics labeler in JAWS to give them labels. You would need sighted help to do this but once it is done, you wouldn't need

Agreed with this, hardware of this type changes on an extremely rapid
basis. (Mostly, I suspect, so that they can always put "newer and
better" on the box).

On this point, I would add that unless someone has just gotten a router, then our suggestions may not be very useful.
My Linksys smart router is possibly 5 years old, and you can't likely get that

Also, just as a note, you can label graphics so that screen readers
speak whatever text you assign and then even graphics buttons are
usable. The trick here is making sure you get the labels
