Go into Sound Settings in Windows, and make sure the sound card that you want to play the start up sound from, is the default sound card. If it isn't, then you won't hear it.

None of my computers have fast start up enabled, yet the start up sound works on all three of them.
My suspicion is that you have more than one sound card and the start up sound is going to

Being Canadian the subscription was not available to me. Perhaps that's changed however, purchasing the SMA was more cost affective in the long run. It cost $160 for 2 years, as apposed to $95 per

Yes, I do have a secondary sound card, but, at least as far as I can tell, re-arranging the sound card configurations has not allowed the startup sound to come back.

The annual subscription mentioned isn’t available tu us in the UK as yet.
However, every summer Sight and Sound reduce the price of JAWS and other FS products in line with sales offered

You can get a Annual Home subscription for JAWS for around $90 a year. There is also a free screen reader "NVDA"
