Because if you work in an environment with sighted people who may want to look at your monitor turning it off and on many times a day is inconvenient whereas for Jaws users the screen shade key

It is often the case that JAWS will indicate that an email has an attachment but in fact there is no attachment that we can open. This seems to happen with messages which appear as web pages

Well, I use insert plus the sprint screen which is the jaws of keystroke for shading. My leave my laptop lid closed all the time, don’t have any overheating problems unless the process is getting

Hi, Zel. Apparently, what they are doing is looking at the message in Message Preview, without actually opening the message. JAWS key plus A won't work in this case. I actually go into Outlook

That must have been a long time ago, when the laptop lids locked shut.
They don't lock down now, and air can get in when the lids are closed.

I would never leave a laptop lid closed. At my last place of employment (last as in now retired,) a guy did that because he had a large external monitor and a very small office so used it as extra

Why not just turn off the monitor completely?
Or if it is a laptop with a separate keyboard, keep the lid closed, and set the power options to do nothing when the lid is closed.
It saves energy
