You could buy from thehelm.com, not free but very private, encrypted
and you get no ads or anything. There are others like protonmail,
etc.

So one of my accounts is going to be
first@...
.net was not available, and .org was too expensive.

It should be, yes. I haven't used it personally, but I believe it operates on the same principles as CPanel.

May I say that I have been using
www.arbordomains.com
for 20 years, to register domains.
It is very Jaws friendly and you can check the availability of any domain name you wish, takes about 30
