As far as I know there's no shortcut to detect forms mode. But it's no problem to write a script doing this job.

I have also had Outlook closing seemingly spontaneously off and on for a while now. Luckily, this is not happening often. I have also seen occasions where JAWS reads the wrong thing when arrowing

This is helpful, Brian. Because I use a reverse high contrast color scheme, I’m often very dubious about what Automatic will do for my font colors. I’ve had issues (mainly when in Outlook 2010)

Another search keystroke that doesn't get mentioned much is, Windows key + Q. I use this keystroke to take me to the search field from wherever I'm at in the computer OS.
