If it isn't on the desktop, the shortcut key likely won't work. To create the shortcut do the following.
hit windows+r and type shell:appsfolder and press enter
Now, find your version of jaws, hit

Hey there, Madison, BZ here again, grin! There's another way to do this in
windows ten. 1. Hit windows key plus r which will bring up the run dialog.
2. Type shell:appsfolder and then press enter.

If the alt key things are the worst, try an external keyboard to make sure something weird isn't going on with the one on the laptop. Otherwise, you're going to have to get a newer version

I went to my desktop and the Jaws shortcut doesn't seem to be on there. I went
into the search box and found Jaws, but when I pressed shift f10 to create a
shortcut I got 5 options:

I seem to have two jaws 20 versions loaded on my laptop. I

although you did not specify what version of Windows and JAWS you are using, as Windows 10 continues to receive feature improvements and other updates, older versions of JAWS will gradually stop

Actually, you have to be on speech on demand and then press Jaws Key + Spacebar followed by Shift + S and you then hear "Speech off set to speech mute".
At that point Jaws is completely muted and Jaws

You're already half way there. As Arkadiusz has said you can Open File Location then select JAWS and do a Send to Desktop from the context menu.

I guess this works as long as Jaws is the first thing which pops up when you press Windows Key and J. If it does and it's consistent then great, if not that is where typing JFW comes in handy.

Hi, another up side of using the insert + space S command means your braille
display will still work.
Also your braille display won't work if your not running Jaws because it is

Just a bit more about Full speech, speech on demand and speech muted:
As Jasmine pointed out, pressing Jaws Key + Spacebar followed by S invokes Speech on Demand which limits what Jaws will speak and
