If you activate the link from the actual window after finding the link by using Insert+F7 “move to link” button then press Control+Enter. Then you can use Control+1 thru 0 to flip

No. You're thinking of the setting that says to open what would normally open in its own window to open in a tab instead. That's already taken care of.

Can this be done?
I tried CTRL plus hitting enter to activate the link, but it always replaces the contents of the tab that had focus when you invoked the "show list of links" dialog with INS+F7.
