Apparently, that is the way JAWS behaves now.
I too miss the way Window-Eyes focused where you would expect a screen reader to focus.

Desktop Question
I was a Window Eyes user. With W.E., when leaving a program I was returned to the desktop. With Jaws, I have to hit windows-D to get there and sometimes have to hit it twice. to return to desktop.

Movies play just fine and music plays just fine with the onboard sound card. I think it is just something like what SoundBlaster experienced, it is the driver, and why it pops up as a JAWS issue

I am glad you found a solution to what is a very annoying problem. :) I would just add this sounds like a hardware issue with your sound card. Jaws should not be able to load the sound

Dictionary compatible with Windows 7 and JAWS 12
I have post on this subject previously, but I think I might be more successful if I’m more specific. Because I write for publication I need a dictionary that I can download onto my own computer.
