I tried this, but then I got no speech at all and nothing happened. I pressed escape, and then speech was back, but so were the announcements. Perhaps I was doing something wrong. Thanks,

Actually, that key with Num Pad turned off is the JAWS
cursor, so plus sign is a non intity, it just happens to be
the same key, if Num Pad is on, which you do not want with
regular JAWS commands.

Press the numlock to toggle on allows numbers and symbols to be inserted. Press it again to toggle to off status to return to jaws functionality.

if it isn't, I think it will over ride the setting for the other marks.

I am actually having this same issue, and it just started happening all of a sudden. I keep going into quick settings and turning off the announce paragraphs and lines, but it continually turns itself

You turned a setting in Word that shows graphics to represent spaces and line feeds. I believe control-* turns it on and off. It is found on the ribbon under formatting and paragraphs.
