In the cell in question I would do a "ctrl+1 and make sure when the
formatting comes up you are on number find time and press enter. HTH

hmmm, that was great information, thanks. now, how would you clear the formatting of a cell from let say 24 hour clock data to 12 hour data? i entered 7:00 in a cell without adding the PM to the data

hmmm, not sure of an actual key command, but press the applications key then down arrow to insert and press enter, then down arrow to entire row and press enter. an empty row will be inserted above

The best way to learn is to play with it. Go to Settings Center, speech and sounds Schemes. Open it. look at the default scheme and its description, then bring up the next one with the spacebar, and
