extreme solution, as it entails basically ripping up your Internet

Another thought...there's a folder on the computer in iTunes called
"automatically add to iTunes". Do you perhaps have all your apps stored
there?

back by the list server is that gmail is set up in terms of their web
interface, and in that case the user's messages are already
