If you can, email Fs about it and report it. Turns out they didn’t know it. When i’ve said its happend not just with jaws, they said maybe its the browsers. If more of us report to them and to microsoft, i beleve it’ll be fix.

When I go to download Firefox or Thunderbird, I go directly to their release folders, that way you know exactly what you are getting. But if it's already installed, there is always Help >> About.

Then there’s support. If you want to get NVDA support, you really have to rely on the community, but you can hit FS directly.

Updates are also more frequent with JAWS, at least one a month now.

Hi James,

I find JAWS’s Office support better than NVDA’s, and also find it more responsive in Office applications.

Some of its productivity features are also really good like text analyzer.

This could be just my impression, but I also find the NVDA add-on process a bit messy, EG. a lot of add-ons always seem to break when NVDA is updated and it takes a while for them to get fixed. While I’m sure that does happen to external scripts and JAWS, it doesn’t feel as though it happens nearly as often.

Cheers,

Ed

Hi,

Just efficiency really.

A simple example is reading Email in Outlook 365. JAWS will continue to read the whole Email as soon as you open it, but NVDA will only read the first line and give all that garbage about HTML document and stuff. NVDA is simply not as polished as JAWS. In fact, Narrator does a better job with outlook than NVDA.

Just my personal opinion, but I'd say if you're a home user, NVDA is fine, but when the rubber hits the road, JAWS has more chops.

All the best

Steve

I agree with doing it this way, especially after I had the import utility refuse to import any of my settings from an export file. It is now also my preferred way to backup my settings.

I have only worked with the Focus 40 Blue, and my department at work is trying to get this for me.

However, it looks like it is currently sold out, so what other braille display could I research that will work well with JFW?

Or, is this the best one, since I believe it was made to work with Jaws?

Thanks.

I've noticed the same thing; my guess, off the top of my head, is
that something has chhanged with the 2-chromium based browsers.

The question is what; and the work around or fix.

Will be interested in the feedback of others on this.

That makes no sense at all! Edge and Chrome are both based on the Chromium engine which is itself an open source project!

I honestly don't know other than to try contacting Google, or since Chromium is open source, maybe contacting the development community about this problem.

I myself have pretty much given up on reporting any problems with JAWS because I've always gotten the same results, which I described in my previous message.

I know what Freedom Scientific will say. They'll say that it isn't
happening to them and could you send them step by step instructions on
how to reproduce it? Only then will they even admit that it is a
problem, and even then they'll say it's Google's problem since they
created the Chromium engine, and then they'll close the case.

You could convert pdf to txt? Or to some other format…

File formats are a pretty flexible thing.

Are you looking for any scripts in particular?

I know what Freedom Scientific will say. They'll say that it isn't happening to them and could you send them step by step instructions on how to reproduce it? Only then will they even admit that it is a problem, and even then they'll say it's Google's problem since they created the Chromium engine, and then they'll close the case.

Utterly useless!

We need to do something about it as a community.
Maybe to write to Freedom Scientific, or Google or Microsoft.
I’ve talked with Microsoft disability answer desk now, they said: its maybe problem with  my system… windows.
Strange people.

Not to mention that it is very annoying and frustrating regardless of
whether you are working or playing.

Your explanation makes perfect sense!

Also, keeping the SMA's gives you greater flexibility as JAWS will
continue working for you on a version of Windows it no longer supports.

One doesn't always make decisions strictly on what is the cheapest;
often, decisions are based on what works best for a given person.
You are using smart thinking giving yourself the greatest flexibility
possible.
And, if you have no financial issues with that, why not sas you keep more
options open to yourself.
