I haven't seen any discounts offered this convention season for Jaws.
Generally, the most cost effective way to purchase a SMA is to renew for 2
years instead of 1 at the time of renewal.
As I'm set through the 2024 upgrade, it shows me no prices when looking at
the upgrade page.

Hello everyone.

As the other thread has gone on for a while and people may miss the important message sent by Curtis (At least, I think it was him; sorry if it’s not, I deleted the message already) describing a workaround for the problem of JAWS not being able to engage with the context menu through standard means, I thought I would explain in another message, as well as outlining my own ideas about this problem and what is actually happening.

First, while NVDA can interact as normal with the context menu, JAWS cannot, and it doesn’t matter what JAWS version you are using, new or old. The problem as I see it is that, normally, when an item is “clicked” to activate the right-click or context menu, the user is automatically taken outside the virtual buffer in order to activate a menu choice. This could be with the arrow keys, or it could be with a keystroke that activates your  menu option of choice. Now, for whatever reason, while pressing the context menu key does activate the menu, JAWS stays in virtual mode, and therefore, your arrow keys and letter keys  won’t interact   with the menu at all, but instead will do what you’d normally xpect in reading mode as if you hadn’t activated the menu at all.

To solve this, turn the virtaul cursor off with insert-z after you hit the context menu key. Jaws will not immediately announce “context menu” but you will be in it, and hitting down arrow will alert JAWS that this is, in fact, what you want to interact with. You can also, of course, press a letter to activate the menu option instead of the arrows.

For example, I’ve just gone to the webpage of one of my favourite podcasts on podbay.fm. I find the episode I want, and go to the download link. I press the context menu key, then insert-z, and then the letter k to activate the save file dialogue box.

Yeah, we can trade in having a life for Jaws?
I'm not saying Jaws is over priced, necessessarily, but to say that the cost
of a few meals out, you can have Jaws is rubbish.
That is a lousy comparison.
I guess if someone needs to lose weight, you could say that for the price of
all those unhealthy snacks you are buying, or if you drink too much, for the
price of that daily 6-pack, it might be a more meaningful statement.

Freedom Scientific sure doesn’t make it easy to actually locate and purchase these specials, though: I’ve just spent the past half-hour attempting to renew my Jaws subscription. K.

This was mentioned during Freedom Scientific’s session covering new features in JAWS, currently streaming on ACB Media 5 as I write this. According to their announcement you can purchase a JAWS home annual license for 3 or 5 years at a 20% discount. I’m uncertain if this special ends on July 31 along with their other specials and I have not yet checked to verify whether this discount also applies to Fusion or Zoomtext. As a reminder several hardware magnification products are also being temporarily offered at discounted prices. In addition, an OpenBook license is being offered for only $195.00 and the Pearl Camera is available for $200.00.

If 2022 was your last upgrade that your SMA entitled you to then to get the lower $150 price, you should have bought another two years before they released the 2022 version. That is what I meant by letting your SMAs expire. Sorry for the confusion.

You probably let your SMAs expire, they do charge you for that.

If you are up to date on your SMA, a SMA renewal for $120 that covers two years is a better deal. This is what I did. But if you are behind in your SMA then go for the annual license.

It's a great reason to switch to the JAWS Home Annual License, available for
$95 per year.

Firstly, thanks to those who answered my query about drag and drop.

A number of possible solutions, including one supplied by Mike and others found with Google, were tried but nothing worked.

Secondly,I am attempting to rearrange some accounts in Thunderbird and drag and drop seems to be the method used.

It appears that the easiest solution may be to get a pair of eyes to do it.

Cheers

Hi Tom,
About the only place I drag and drop is on the Taskbar, but this is the best method I've learned of for Windows 10. Below Win10's steps will be the keystroke for Win11, and you can always try the Win10 keystroke with Win11 in other areas than the Taskbar.

With Jaws 2021 or 2022 I can drag and drop anything at will and in seconds, not sure why this doesn't work for you and I'm not saying drag and drop
works everywhere, but on the taskbar it works 100% of the time and it's
simply a matter of going to the icon you want to drag, pressing the,
Control + Jaws Key + NumPad Slash key combination, arrowing to where you want to
drop it and pressing the key combination again.

Win11:

Windows 11 has dedicated keystrokes built-in for moving taskbar icons. Simply hold Alt and Shift, and use your left and right arrows. Note that your screen
reader doesn’t announce that it’s moving them at this stage, but it works.

Hi,
Using Jaws 22, how do I use the drag and drop command?
Is there anything to be aware of?
Thanks
