Do have to tell it yes. Otherwise it will not tell you if you are up to date or not.

Hello back,

in the jaws help menu when I activate the check for jaws updates, I only get the question from the freedom scientific app asking me if I want to let this app make changes to my computer and I can only select yes or no. Since I am not sure at this time what this freedom scientific app will exactly do to my laptop if I select yes, I for now instead select no.

In the jaws help menu, when you activate this app check for updates, I thought a jaws user gets a list of all the current updates of jaws that are available, giving the jaws user the option to select from this list the particular jaws update they want to download?

Kindest regards,

Hank

Hello back,

Thanks for all the helpful replies. But as I was mentioning earlier, even though I am still using the October or November 2021 release of jaws 2022, I am no longer getting that automatic pop up window when my jaws first starts up asking me if I want to yes or no update my jaws to a newer release of jaws 2022?

I was until about 3 or 4 days ago getting this automatic pop up window asking me if I yes or no wanted to update my jaws every time when my jaws first started up, but now I am not. This has got me stumped because as I was saying, I am still using the last October or November 2021 release of jaws 2022. I have already checked in jaws under basics, and the automatic notification of jaws updates is yes checked.

I am really hoping that maybe someone has an idea on how I can get back this automatic pop up window asking me if I want to yes or no update my jaws to a newer release of jaws 2022 when my jaws first starts up? Would be very, very appreciative for any help on this matter. Much, much thanks in advance for any possible help on this.

With kindest regards,

Hank

Hello:

" Wait, didn't I hear on the FSCast that they had changed that behavior so that you were notified of newer versions even if that newer version is a major version upgrade and not just a point version update?"

If you hold the JAWS Home Annual License, what you say is accurate. But if you are on the traditional licensing scheme, you will not automatically be notified when a major update comes out—usually around the end of October.

Now when my jaws first starts up I no longer get that notification
update pop up window in which I can select yes or no to update jaws
or not. And no I have not yet updated my October or November 2021

I have checked under options in jhaws and the automatic notification

This really has me stumped. Anyone maybe please have any ideas on

Hi Tom,

About the only place I drag and drop is on the Taskbar, but this is the best method I've learned of for Windows 10.  Below Win10's steps will be the keystroke for Win11, and you can always try the Win10 keystroke with Win11 in other areas than the Taskbar.

Win10:
 From: Sieghard Weitzel
With Jaws 2021 or 2022 I can drag and drop anything at will and in seconds, not sure why this doesn't work for you and I'm not saying drag and drop
works everywhere, but on the taskbar it works 100% of the time and it's
simply a matter of going to the icon you want to drag, pressing the,
Control + Jaws Key + NumPad Slash key combination, arrowing to where you want to
drop it and pressing the key combination again.

Sieghard

Win11:
From: Ben Moxey
Windows 11 has dedicated keystrokes built-in for moving taskbar icons. Simply hold Alt and Shift, and use your left and right arrows. Note that your screen
reader doesn’t announce that it’s moving them at this stage, but it works.

Actually, it is just the opposite.
The touch cursor is for those of us without a touch screen.
So you can use the touch screen.
For those without a touch screen, you activate the touch screen cursor with shift + PC cursor.
Double-tap the PC cursor to turn it off.
Then you can use the arrow keys and the number pad.

Hey! I have a question about the touch cursor of Jaws. I have a touch screen and I guess thats what the touch cursor is for. The problem is, I can not find a way to activate it. I already tried combinations like Shift+Insert+Caps lock+(+) or Shift+Caps lock+; but for some reason I can't get it to work. Is there a quick gesture to activate it? Do you guys have any experiences with Jaws on a touch screen?

I have one from2019 but does not help in the 2022 Jaws using W10.

In the 2019 document, it says while in menus to use arrows and go across tabs, no such thing isn 2022.

Am lost completely.

Any help appreciated..Thanks

moderated Firefox 102 workaround for JAWS Users

Curtis Chong

Greetings and salutations:

If one has to use Firefox 102, for whatever reason, there really is a work-around to the inability to read the context menu you open up when you right click on a link.

Focus on the link with the virtual cursor for JAWS turned on. Now, with Insert z, turn off the virtual cursor and tab back and forth until you are sure you are focused on the correct link. Then, activate the right click function (Shift F10 in my case). Use arrow keys to review the menu.

The JAWS latest update seems to have broken something inasmuch as, with NVDA, this work-around is not necessary.

Hi everyone!

Today I downloaded a new version of Pop Peeper Pro and got warnings that the file might harm my device. That's fine, Windows Security is doing its job. The problem I have is that JAWS doesn't get along with Windows Security. After the warning about the file, I'm asked if I want to keep the file anyway and then there are two buttons, Keep and Delete. The problem is that I have to fuss with it trying just about anything for quite a while before something works and my choice is finally recognized.

Has anybody encountered this and figured out how to make it work? It's driving me crazy with frustration.

Thanks!

What's strange is I can get it to work in earlier versions of JAWS like JAWS 15, but JAWS 2021 doesn't seem to have the same parameters. At least not what I understand. I add something to the "Eloq.sbl" in JAWS 2021, and nothing changes. Mind you, I do this in the user version of the file. What have I done wrong?

Oh, so frustrating.  We use something called Software Center and I don’t know if that is our branding for it or if it’s the actual application name.  I will note that I had some issues with the VM Boxer app to read my email on the phone. I reached out to VMWare, who said to go through my company contact. I did and they resolved the issues.  So, I would encourage you to see if you can find out who maintains that relationship with VMWare  and report the issue. It’s a big enough company now that maybe they’ll give it some attention.

next week before contacting FS. I'm tempted to go firefox beta hunting, though.

If you turn on the use unified keyboard method in keyboard/general
in settings center, the application key will work, unfortunately
arrow keys don't work. I could live with it if I could set this
function to a hotkey, but I don't find it mentioned in the
keyboard manager.

Well, I'm not using the latest NVDA, and can access the context menu with taht screen-reader. So perhaps FS could change the implementation of something or other. What I'm saying is that yes, Firefox changed, but it can't all be in their camp/their responsibility.
Whatever though. I'm still using an old version of jFW myself so I'd be happy if Mozilla fixed whatever it is, too.

Given that Firefox has changed and jaws has not (I'm still using 2021), I suspect they would say "take it up with the Firefox devs".

Man..I've never called JAWS tech support, but from posts here and things I've heard from elsewhere, they do sound a little bit unhelpful and kind of counter-productive, parroting out the same routine lines instead of getting down to tryign to solve someone's problem, which for sure is going to be linked with some kind of application th ey are trying to use.

Not only that, when a problem arises, FS says that their agents can't help with programs we may use with JAWS. They can only help with JAWS. This defeats the purpose of calling FS when there is an interaction problem between JAWS and programs that run on top of JAWS.

Hey Glenn!
I've tried that before, but I'm thinking of doing this in the "Eloq.sbl" file, as it worked before in previous versions of JAWS.

Annabelle,

I wonder how I would change the pronunciation of characters like "🫢", "🤫",
"🤬", and the like? For example, I want "🤫" to say something like "Shushing
Face". Would I put something like:
symbol109=U+1f92b 11111111 Shushing Face

Hi Annabelle,
My name is a mid eastern one I don't think its another version.
you don't need to work on the file in its default directory. make a

one.
And If you have another eloq.sbl file and made changes on it or
you can test your work with changing the pronunciation of a single
symbol and save it then replace the file with the one in the
directory
I've mentioned earlier, just make sure to take a copy of the
original
one as a backup somewhere else.

Here is a sample of how I did edit it and it still works,
you can do it if you know which line to edit.
I had a reference to all Arabic letters within the eloq.sbl file
from
someone back then that made it much easier for me to work on it.
below the sample lines, you See the last "word" in each line that's
what eloquence pronounces when encounter an Arabic character I've
edited them to my liking using note pad.

symbol55=U+631 11111111 reh
symbol56=U+632 11111111 zeh
symbol57=U+633 11111111 seh

Hi Annabelle,
"Eloq.sbl" works for me, I've edited it many years back to read

change the tts voice to anything other than eloquence. But I
don't
use
the user data directory.
Instead I replace it with the default one in the:
"C:\ProgramData\Freedom Scientific\JAWS\20xx\SETTINGS\eloq.sbl"
replace the "xx" with 21 in your case and open the folder as:
"C:\ProgramData\Freedom Scientific\JAWS\2021\SETTINGS\"
Paste the file and replace it following the prompts, that would
do
it.

characters
that
JAWS seems to ignore when I type them. Particularly things like
smileys
and
characters of foreign languages like Japanese, Russian, Hebrew,

Greek.
By the way, what's the difference between "Eloq.sbl",
"Eloqmain.dct",
and
"Eloquence.vpf"?
