I'm aware of something new going on with accessibility in Firefox, and I figured with the holiday I might as well give it until early next week before contacting FS.  I'm tempted to go firefox beta hunting, though.

If you turn on the use unified keyboard method in keyboard/general in
settings center, the application key will work, unfortunately arrow keys
don't work.  I could live with it if I could set this function to a
hotkey, but I don't find it mentioned in the keyboard manager.

The format of a symbol line is given near the top of the file:

;keys starting with symbol have the following format:
;symbolN=char flags text
;where N is an incrementing number (as you add symbols to the table),
;char is the symbol being represented
;flags are four groups of two bits, from left to right, two for all,
two for most, two for some and two for none.
; These sets of flags correspond to the four punctuation levels
supported by JAWS.
; The two bits represent (from left to right) whether pronunciation
text at the end of the rule should be inserted and the
;second bit represents whether the symbol itself should be removed
from the stream
;The final field, text, is the text to be spoken when bit 1 of any
group of two bits is set, ie the text to be spoken for
;the symbol.
; Some symbols also have the actual symbol appended after the text to
ensure that specific synthesisers still honour the
;punctuation symbol when processing intonnation because a space would
otherwise be
;inserted after the text causing the inserted symbol to stand alone
and thus not necessarily be honoured by the synth.

The flags field allows you to set those two items differently for each
level of punctuation echo.

I wonder how I would change the pronunciation of characters like "🫢", "🤫",

Face". Would I put something like:
symbol109=U+1f92b 11111111 Shushing Face

Hi Annabelle,
My name is a mid eastern one I don't think its another version.
you don't need to work on the file in its default directory. make a
copy for that purpose to other place then make your changes, then take
it back and replace it. also make a backup copy for the original one.
And If you have another eloq.sbl file and made changes on it or
you can test your work with changing the pronunciation of a single
symbol and save it then replace the file with the one in the directory
I've mentioned earlier, just make sure to take a copy of the original
one as a backup somewhere else.

Here is a sample of how I did edit it and it still works,
you can do it if you know which line to edit.
I had a reference to all Arabic letters within the eloq.sbl file from
someone back then that made it much easier for me to work on it.
below the sample lines, you See the last "word" in each line that's
what eloquence pronounces when encounter an Arabic character I've
edited them to my liking using note pad.

Hi everyone!

I've been having this problem since the last update to JAWS and am wondering if anyone has seen it or has a solution or work around for it. I am running the latest version of both JAWS and Edge on 64 bit Windows 10 Home. JAWS is the 64 bit version.

While browsing the internet, I can enter and change a combo box, but when I want to move on to the next field in the form, I am finding that JAWS is somehow stuck in the combo box and I have to struggle to get out of it. As much as I like the new Notification history feature and its rules, I am seriously considering going back to the April update until this problem is fixed.

I was having a problem with Firefox 102 and the application key not working, and I found one possible way around it.
If you turn on the use unified keyboard method in keyboard/general in settings center, the application key will work, unfortunately arrow keys don't work.  I could live with it if I could set this function to a hotkey, but I don't find it mentioned in the keyboard manager.

Stumped still.

I myself used the /DisableExternalServices option when I installed JAWS so I can't use the check for updates as this option prevents JAWS from ever accessing the internet, instead I use a program called SUMo which stands for Software Update Monitor, it scans all my software for their current versions, then accesses an online database to determine if any of my software has an update available. I can then go and get those updates if I want them, or I can tell SUMo to ignore it if I don't want the update.

One of the reasons I did this is because I didn't like the idea that just checking for an update should need administrator access to my system. My opinion is that that should be left to the update/upgrade installer itself.

And yes, using the /DisableExternalServices disables a number of JAWS features, but after almost ten years of using JAWS, I found that I didn't use any of those features anyway.

Here's a thought, and this is only a theory. Maybe after a certain amount of time has elapsed, say six months for example, JAWS figures that you don't want to update or upgrade and stops notifying you. Or it could be that after you have declined the update/upgrade a certain number of times, again it stops notifying you.

Just an idea...

Have you tried to stop JAWS after your startup has finished and then restarting again? I'd be curious to know if you then get the update window. There is some possibility that at startup, JAWS is trying to get to the information but cannot because the Internet connection is not yet fully active.

    my jaws first starts up

    Hello,
Now when my jaws first starts up I no longer get that notification
update pop up window in which I can select yes or no to update jaws
or not. And no I have not yet updated my October or November 2021
release of jaws 2022 to the latest release of 2022.
I have checked under options in jhaws and the automatic notification
    of updates is checked.
This really has me stumped.  Anyone maybe please have any ideas on
how I can get back this pop up window when I first start my October
or November 2021 release of jaws 2022? Much, much thanks in advance
for any help I can maybe get with this.
    With kindest regards,
    Hank
