So because iPhone will be getting many more vintage classic tts voices like eloquence and classic mac voices, why not jaws? Could everyone on here write to freedom scientific asking for the return of sapi4 voices like l&h TruVoice, and other sapi4 tts engines and decTalk, because decTalk seemed to be the most common tts back in the 80s and 90s. DecTalk works with NVDA but the addon frequently breaks because of them always updating it once a year and if decTalk 4.1 through 4.6 was in jaws well it would just work. Keynote gold multimedia tts is probablly out of the question but I think they could at least bring back sapi4 support and put a couple decTalk versions into jaws.

Hello,
I use outlook 2019 with jaws 2022 and now, the amount of unread messages aren't shown anymore when I move between the different inboxes in Outlook with the arrow-keys.
The strange thing is that that amount is showing corectly when I use jaws 2020.
The jawssettings in jaws 2022 are migrated from my jaws 2020 so this settings should be nearly identical.
It has never worked in jaws 2022.

Thx for any hints

Kind regards, William Windels

Hi,

I hope you will not give up.  From taking and teaching classes  I know both ends of the feeling of being overwhelmed. The student perspective and the teacher or employer perspective where lots of information must be given at once even though the employee will feel snowed under .

I pray you will get patient people within the office to work with you and will have the resources to meet the challenge.

Thanks for all of the suggestions here.

I honestly feel like I’m drowning.

I went from feeling very competent on my previous job to feeling like I can’t do anything.

I know these are always new challenges, when starting a new job, but this is so very daunting.

There are so many systems to learn within the organization, and I honestly am having difficulty with just the basic training aspect of things.

Accessing training in Success Factors is hit or miss, even on my personal computer, because the trainings don’t appear to all be formatted the same.

Hi.

If your workplace provides Adobe Acrobat Pro, it has oCR built in – if you need oCR functionality, I would use this and not JAWS.

If the forms are created properly, you’ll also be able to use this programme to fill them out. It works rather likea  webpage. When you finish, there’s usually a save button, which will save the form and, if required, send it to its destination on the network/over the internet.

Not all forms are created equal though, so you’ll have to take it on a case by case basis.

Subject: Federal Employment and Accommodations

Hello All,

I just began a new job this week, with the federal government.

I have requested the following accommodations, JFW, a braille display, such as the Focus 40 Blue and an iPhone thus far.

I have already found the following issues. They use Adobe a great deal, so I need something that I can use to fill out forms? Is this doable, even with using something like Adobe Acrobat DC?

I have sent myself some of the required forms to my private e-mail and have been able to open them with my iPhone, but I'm not sure I can fill them out this way.

If I've requested JFW, is there any potential reason why I'd also need Kurzweil, seeing as JFW has the built-in OCR?

The department I work for also uses a Soft Phone system, which I'm told will not be accessible, so I've requested an iPhone as an alternative.

They have offered me a reader, but I don't see myself needing that enough to justify that expense for the department as well. I successfully did this job, at a state level, with minor issues, for 10 years.

If you'd rather not clutter up the list, please feel free to e-mail me directly.

Claudiadr2013@...

Thanks.

Claudia

Just a comment on training courses. We have to take mandatory security
training courses every year, and some of those have the worst accessibility
issues. I find that some of the administrative tasks, such as these
training courses, performance self-assessments, etc. are harder to navigate
than the actual tasks I need to do for my job.

In my current job, I have been working from home for about 16 years, and I
agree with Robin that AIRA can be a big help if I am unable to figure out an
inaccessible screen. I have also used their service when people send me
screen shots that I cannot read. To me, it is worth having a monthly
subscription to AIRA just to help get through these kinds of situations in a
timely manner.

All the best to you, Claudia, and hang in there!

Claudia,
Hang in there. Depending on how much of what you are currently dealing with
will be ongoing actions you need to do versus a one time or only periodic
task, don't be afraid to ask if someone, such as an executive assistant can
come help you. I've had to do this with inaccessible programs or ones that
just take so much time to navigate and figure out for the random times I
need to do a task. You might also consider subscribing to AIRA, assuming
you have a smart phone and reasonable cell service in your office. While
they are unlikely to be able to connect to your PC to do the task for you
due to firewalls, you can potentially accomplish some tasks with them by
holding up the phone to your monitor. I started using this service when we
were working from home and I couldn't just go ask a co-worker to read an
inaccessible screen to me. If there are aspects of the training that you
could do on your home PC, you can actually have AIRA use Team Viewer to take
control of your computer and move faster to get the job done. If you are
an ACB member, and maybe with NFB, you can get 30 minutes per month for $20,
plus 5 minutes free every few hours. My tasks often take less than 5
minutes, so I don't' even tap into my paid minutes for a while. If there is
a month where I have a lot to do, I can buy extra minutes.

I'm feeling your pain with some new software at work that just feels like
it's eating my confidence, energy and time. I've been thinking to find a
coworker who will sit down with me to help me figure out the layout of this
software and what is happening when I click various things. I think that
having a sense of this would help me gain some efficiency. Again, I might
use AIRA to do this.

Hug to you.
Robin

If you are an ACB member, and maybe with NFB, you can get 30 minutes per month for $20, plus 5 minutes free every few hours. My tasks often take less than 5 minutes, so I don't' even tap into my paid minutes for a while. If there is a month where I have a lot to do, I can buy extra minutes.

I'm feeling your pain with some new software at work that just feels like it's eating my confidence, energy and time. I've been thinking to find a coworker who will sit down with me to help me figure out the layout of this software and what is happening when I click various things. I think that having a sense of this would help me gain some efficiency. Again, I might use AIRA to do this.

Hug to you.
Robin

Okay,

So, I have Adobe Acrobat DC on the work computer with Narrator still, and there are forms requiring signature.
We can digitally sign these forms, using our government digital signature, but I still am unable to figure out where to place the signature on the form.

Hi,

I'm with you-just started a new job with a decent amount of PDF use. It seems like forms are pretty accessible, but I would definitely ask for the pro version if not already given to you.

Maybe we can tag team on things we figure out. I have to figure out how to trim pages today.

Claudia,
Hang in there. Depending on how much of what you are currently dealing with will be ongoing actions you need to do versus a one time or only periodic task, don't be afraid to ask if someone, such as an executive assistant can come help you. I've had to do this with inaccessible programs or ones that just take so much time to navigate and figure out for the random times I need to do a task. You might also consider subscribing to AIRA, assuming you have a smart phone and reasonable cell service in your office. While they are unlikely to be able to connect to your PC to do the task for you due to firewalls, you can potentially accomplish some tasks with them by holding up the phone to your monitor. I started using this service when we were working from home and I couldn't just go ask a co-worker to read an inaccessible screen to me. If there are aspects of the training that you could do on your home PC, you can actually have AIRA use Team Viewer to take control of your computer and move faster to get the job done. I access citrics on a daily basis. However you have to be accessing the server you are working on directly. If you have to deal with a jump server then you may have problems.

Thanks,abraham

Hi, Ralph. The easiest of these to explain is pass key through. If you are
on a website, and you need to click something like a button or a link, and
it won't respond to pressing ENTER or SPACE, you can use JAWS Key plus the
number three on the numbers row to send the ENTER key directly to the
website, and bypass sending it through the screen reader.

root jaws cursor to pc and vice versa are used when you are trying to click
something in a program, but the cursor is not focused on the element which
you are trying to make respond. Sometimes, even if you use the TAB or Arrow
keys, the PC cursor is stuck somewhere, and won't move to the element,
because it is expecting mouse movement, not arrow movement. I have had
greatest success when routing the PC Cursor to the JAWS cursor. This often
causes the thing you are trying to click, such as a check box, to respond.

I've no experience with Citrix but I use the very similar remote
desktop app with great success. I do have the jaws remote access
option enabled as part of my license.

Thanks.

Claudia
