Hi, Karen. Usually, you told me, that it happens in Outlook. So, if you are in the Inbox, and you have 128 messages, when you virtualize the control, you will see a list of the messages currently visible on the screen. This last phrase is important, because you can't interact with the screen in this mode. So, if you look at the total screen that is visible, you will see all your messages on that screen, but you won't be able to open, delete, move them or anything else. It is just a reading mode. They used to call these reading modes screen review modes. The reason Virtual Control Mode doesn't work on webpages is that they had to put the browsers in a continuous virtual mode because of the way they are made now. So if you put outlook into Virtual Control mode, all you will be able to do is to read what is on the screen. In order to exit this mode, you must press ESCAPE. the benefit of this mode is that you can see the size, date, time, etc. of messages, and read through the information. Outside of virtual mode, you can hear the information, but you can't arrow through it, read it, copy it, etc.

Hi, Karen. If you find a link, and use that shortcut, you are probably on a webpage. If you are using Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge, it is probably going to tell you that the current location is already in a virtual view. To get the actual URL from a link, you usually focus on the link, press the Applications key, arrow down to copy, then read the URL by using WINDOWS Key plus JAWS Key plus X to read what is in the clipboard. This is a good way to find out if a link is trying to take you to a scam website where you don't want to go.

Hi, Karen. If there is a button or other control that you can press by focusing on it, and pressing Space or Enter, pressing INSERT plus SHIFT plus V puts that control in a virtual view. A virtual view is one in which you can look at the control without actually causing it to do what it does when you press Enter or Space on it. It is a way of looking at the controls on the screen without actually clicking on it, the way a sighted person would do by looking at it.

Hi, Mike. Your two methods to turn off location access usually work. On some machines, though, once you turn off location, you get the same type of message, only this time, the website informs you that the website doesn't have access to your location, because it is blocked. I found, though, that updating JAWS using the link which I gave in a previous message, and updating Google Chrome, fixed the problem.

If you use Brian's method, it will stop the message for all web sites.  This may or may not be what you want especially if you land on a new web site and
want to configure it differently.

To get rid of this message for the current web site, do the following.

You can get to your site settings by selecting "view site information" located in the address bar right before the site address. To do this press alt-d
to go to the address bar.  Next shift tab once.  Press enter.  Then follow the steps below:

Tab down and select site settings
This will take you to site permissions
Tab down to location
We changed your settings from "allow" to "block"
To go back to the previous setting select "allow" (if you change your mind)

When done press control-F4 to close the settings window.

From: Brian Vogel
If you want to forbid ANY site from asking for (or accessing your location):
1. Open Chrome Settings.
2. Navigate to the Privacy and Security Settings
3. In those settings, navigate to Site Settings and open.
4. In Site Settings, Permissions Section, the first option is Location, navigate to it and open it.
5. The default radio button, Sites can ask for your location, will be selected.  Go to the next associated radio button, Don't allow sites to see your
location, and activate it.
6. Optional, beneath that radio button is the Customized Behaviors section, there are two subsections, Not allowed to see your location and Allowed to
see your location each of which will contain a list of sites you've previously denied or allowed location access for.  You can selectively delete these
if desired.

Google isn't what's accessing your location, per se, in the instances under discussion here, but the websites you're browsing.  Google is keeping records
regarding which you wish to allow or disallow that access for.  If you turn off Google's ability to ask permission then, effectively, all websites other
than those you may have already allowed will be disallowed going forward, as you are telling Chrome not to ask you on behalf or sites if they can access
your location - which means they can't, and you won't be asked if they can.

Hi, Judy. If you want to make sure Chrome is updated to the latest update,

1. Open Chrome.

2. Press ALT, followed by the letters, F, E, G.

3. This will update Chrome.

With the latest JAWS update and doing this update to Chrome may fix your issues with the message, This website has access to your location.

I have found that, sometimes, even when you turn off location, then the message is, Your location is blocked for this website. Press SHIFT plus F6 to change this in the address bar.

Subject: making changes in address bar

Hi, all, I know this has been brought up before, where in google chrome you get it saying for some websites that this site can access your location. I’ve ignored it, but now it’s finally getting to me. I know to go to alt D to bring it up, but I’m not quite sure what to do from there. Can someone post this again please. Thanks in advance.  Judy & Libby

Hi,

I frequently accidentally press the v instead of b when I am wanting to check the amount of batter time left before needing to charge my laptop. Normally I press insert plus shift plus the letter b. sometimes I mess up and hit v. What is the window that pops up that is “virtualizing current control”? If I do the same thing in an Outlook message it says “No text in current window”, even when there is text there. What is this shortcut key function?

I installed the new version, but the error still exists. Will contact Freedom about it come Monday.

Hi all,

There is a version of JAWS available at the below link that fixes this and other Zoom issues.

The Zoom issues are the only fixes to this version and these fixes will be in the June update.

I don't know if this is a user problem or a scripting problem, someone will clear up that question and carry on with the answer on the right list.

In JAWS 2022, current build, I'm getting the following error when I press Control plus Shift plus T in Zoom to hear the identity of the currently speaking conference participant:

Unknown function call to ClearLastNotificationAppName

Of course, the function name is first spoken, then spelled.

I am not using any third-party or homebrewed scripts for Zoom--this is straight outa-the-box JAWS. Works fine in 2021, best in 2020, all on current Zoom, 5.10.4.5035.

Thanks in advance.

Hi, Mich. JAWS does not have a spell checker, but the Google Chrome Browser has a minimal spell checker.
