Greetings:

It is an unfortunate problem. I believe the move to Windows 11 is the reason
for your problem. The fix may take a while.

After installing windows 11 on my computer, JAWS 2022with Eudora no
longer reliably reads status graphics--unread, sent, etc. turning
graphics to all, I see different graphic numbers for unread
messages, where in windows 10 graphic 621 consistently indicated
unread. When I open an unread graphic, the status graphic number
does not change to indicate the item was read. this happened in an
earlier version of JAWS and was corrected in a subsequent
version. since JAWS no longer supports Eudora,I will just hope the
correction happens with a new JAWS. I have graphics set to
labeled, but I haven't labeled any because they are
inconsistent--graphic 676 preceeds 'read' and 'unread', for example.
Additionally, after accessing the internet, the message list in
Eudora often reads "no selected item", and the only way I can fix
that is to reboot the computer ... or of course use NVDA, which
reads the message list correctly.

Further testing shows JAWS2021 reading Eudora much better.

Okay, try the steps below and see if the scripts are turned on.

To access the Manage applications feature:
1. Open the Jaws context menu.  Insert + J if running Jaws from the system tray.

2. Press enter on Options, up arrow to Manage applications settings..., and press enter.

Manage Applications settings... Explained:

This list box shows all applications that have been modified through the Settings Center or with a script.
If a check box is checked, JAWS uses the customized settings. If you no longer want JAWS to use a program's defined settings, clear the check box next
to the program's name.

If you make any changes tab to, Okay, and press enter.  Also take notice of the other options while tabbing to the Okay button.
Other options are Enable All, Disable All and Remove Selected.  You can also tab past the Okay to the Cancel button.

Stay safe and take care.  Mike.

Hi Curtis,

Using my Taskbar pinned icons with the appropriate keystroke and using the Run command are pretty equal, and both are a hell of a lot faster than using an assigned keystroke from the JAWS desktop icon properties.

One thing I have learned is to use the Windows Run command over shortcut keys. Why? Because it does seem to work faster. So, for JAWS, perhaps you can conduct an experiment. Try entering jaws2022 into the run dialog and pressing Enter to see how long that takes. You start the Run dialog by pressing WINDOWS+R.

This is on both desktops and laptops all running the latest Win10 using SSD's.

Dear experts, greetings.

Around 4 days back, have purchased the del 5410 laptop which is running on windows 10 with jaws 2022.

after full charge, when I press insert shift b, jaws says

Battery 100  percent, Time remaining: 1 hours and 55 minutes remaining.
My home internet access.

now the confusion is does screen reader is announcing the remaining time wrongly or that is the actual remaining time.

Why would you question it it’s getting the data from windows. The number windows uses is based a lot on how hard the computer is working at the time and how bright your screen is and things like that so it’s not hard and fast from the beginning

Oh, yes, I guess a user could just use 1 through 6 in the document to get the functionality in the JAWS heading list dialog box. Sigh. I'm back to leaning to NVDA's use of the tree view in the dialog box.

The concept of addons, gives you what you want! You can install as many or as few as you want, giving you what you want! JAWS is so bloated, people don't use half of what is built in. JAWS comes with way too much out of the box! Using the numpad with the review cursor is so easy, and you just use the normal arrow keys to move the system focus! The review cursor is like the JAWS invisible cursor! Also, the Golden cursor add-on lets you do a lot with the mouse with key commands! It is good to have both, however! More tools is better! But, if you do not have the money for JAWS, NVDA is a great screen reader to count on to do most of what you need!

Mark,

That capability does sound interesting, and useful.  NVDA implements something similar in its single letter navigation commands, as the single digits 1 through 6 will traverse headings of the same level as the number you hit.  You can cruise through a given heading level pretty quickly that way.

Mark

I tested the theory. If the virtual pc cursor is not in any region, then there's no mention of a level. But if you move into the first region, JAWS + T will say you are in level 2. If you go into a sub-region, it says you are in level 3.  On reflection, that would make sense only if not being in any region is the same as being at level 1. As a result, I'm still a little puzzled about what the level actually refers to. It feels like I'm missing something.
