Morey, If I remember right and you are the one having trouble editing in a cell in Excel, than you want to uncheck that box that says Allow editing in a cell. I know that this sounds strange, but it will work.

Hi Everyone,
I know I used to be able to read this, but not now. I want to know the total size of specific files and also some folders.
I have Windows 10 and the latest version of JAWS.
I recall using Windows Explorer for this. I would go to the file or folder name and right arrow to the size. When I do this now, all I hear is the word size, but no figure.
How to resolve? Is it an adjustment in Windows 10 or in JAWS?
Thanks in advance for any help.

In Excel, check the Options > Advanced dialog to see if allow editing directly in cells is checked. In extremis this is what I would do barring simply upgrading to the most current version of Excel. Kindly, Curtis Chong

Hi Morey, You mentioned that you are using Excel 2007. I am pretty sure that is your problem. As recently as Office 2016, reading characters inside Excel often misbehaved in the ways you describe. Upgrading to Office 365 or 2021 would almost certainly solve your problem. David David

Excel for Dummies solution
Morey Worthington
Hi all.
I went back to Jaws 2018, and Jaws 2020, keep them around for just this type of thing, and both of them work just fine, meaning the numpad keys for selecting text, etc. Why not working in 2022...HMMMMM.. Will contact Jaws and see what they have to say. Probably something like I have to update Excel to work with the updated Jaws or something like that...whatcha think?? Thanks all for trying to help with my problem. Morey Worthington

same thing, meaning no key response at all
I tried using the jaws/1 to get key help and it says move to next character and move back to prior character in both cases, meaning in the arrow keys and on the numpad. This is really confusing. Might have to call tech tomorrow and maybe they can help. -- Morey Worthington

MAYANK SHARMA
Hi Rahul, I've tried replicating the jaws issue on Chrome and Edge with Jaws 20. I'm consistently finding the search edit below the heading. Have you come across that with any other screen reader, in case you've tried it? Do check if your Chrome is up to date. There's a shortcut to open search edit box using the'/' key when in focus mode just in case, please do check if that works. Kind regards Mayank

Re: Question on how can i retrieve an email address?
Al Sorrentino
Hi Everyone,
I would like to thank all of you for this simple way of retrieving a sender’s e-mail. I knew about the Alt plus 1, 2, 3, etc., but I did not know about the history function using insert and the letter H. It sure is a fool proof way of getting senders correct e-mail. You can also use the copy and paste function to really have the sender’s e-mail correct.
Thank you for this GREAT tip!!!

I usually press Alt 1, then Insert Space then H, and I’m in Speech History, with the top line being the Email address. Then you can read it char by char.
What would be nice would be if you are in the Email field of outlook it would read it char by char, but it doesn’t. Then, you could press Alt 1 twice to get into the field, and read it char by char.
Maybe a suggestion for improvement FS?
All the best

Why not use the arrow keys instead? Also, it might help to toggle the num lock function on and then back off.

Hi, Rahul. Next time this happens in Standard View, check the following,
1. Is your browser maximized? 2. Are other windows closed?

Hi,
I use Gmail standard view with jaws in edge and chrome. The problem I am facing is that it often says that the search mail/all conversations functionality is unavailable. I am referring to the first option under the 'search' heading. I am forced to then switch to basic HTML view. Are there ways to consistently use the search function in Gmail standard view?
Warmly, Rahul

Morey, when I had that kind of problem, I maximized the window by pressing alt+spacebar and then x, or another way is to press Windows+up arrow. I also found that pressing alt+dash maximized, I think it's called, the working area or something similar. give it a try and do write back if these keystrokes helped or not.
