Morey, when I had that kind of problem, I maximized the window by pressing alt+spacebar and then x, or another way is to press Windows+up arrow. I also found that pressing alt+dash maximized, I think it's called, the working area or something similar. give it a try and do write back if these keystrokes helped or not.

Re: Search functionality in Gmail standard view
I know it isn't generally done on these groups, for kinda obvious reasons, but a screenshot after this has occurred would help me. I've never had Gmail search be unavailable if I'm in a place where a search is appropriate. I can't picture what confluence of events would cause it to not be available when in a mailbox.

Search functionality in Gmail standard view
Rahul Bajaj
Hi, I use Gmail standard view with jaws in edge and chrome. The problem I am facing is that it often says that the search mail/all conversations functionality is unavailable. I am referring to the first option under the 'search' heading. I am forced to then switch to basic HTML view. Are there ways to consistently use the search function in Gmail standard view? In my last post, where I gave an example of a program target, followed by a shortcut URL, the server broke the line into two separate components. In actuality, when you follow the program target, which is surrounded by quotes, with the URL, it should all be on one line, not on two separate lines as the broken link shows in the previous email.

Hi Bill,
I pasted a couple of browser desktop shortcuts into the send to menu to try out the process but no, it does not work which I suspected may be the case with browsers. However, in the past I have pasted numerous shortcut icons, like text editors etc, into the send to menu and they work perfectly.
In case anyone is interested, to paste a shortcut icon into the send to menu, do the following.
Hit control c to copy the shortcut, go to C: users, user, app data, roaming, Microsoft, Windows and paste the shortcut into the send to folder. All done.

Hi, Tom. The reason this does not work with browser shortcuts is that they are not executable in and of themselves. They only become executable when acted upon by the default browser. In order to make these shortcuts work, you must give a path to the executable file that opens the browser. If your browser is Edge, for example, and you don't want the shortcut to open in the default browser, but want it to open in Chrome, for example, you might do it this way,
Make a shortcut to the browser you want to open the link following the shortcut, as in,
"C:\Program Files\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" https://www.youtube.com/
If this is in the target of the shortcut, and you paste this into the Send To menu, it will open YouTube using Google Chrome, even if that browser is not your default browser.

The real editing keys should work: left, right, home, end, etc. I've had your same problem sometimes; my solution has been to reload my screen reader. Beyond that, I'm afraid I can't help. Sorry.

Hi howard.
I opened the cell using the f2 key and again it says edit. Using the left or right arrow keys does nothing. If i press the home key, then press the number 5 key it says the first letter but if I press the number 6 key to go to next letter....nothing. Any other thoughts. A while back there was a tip about going into options, into advanced andturn off allow editing in cells which I did do. Should I then go back into settings and make it allow changes? The left and right arrow keys should move you around in the text box; just like in a text editor. When finished, press enter. The text box will close and you'll be put down to the next row in the same column.

Excel for dummies help
Morey Worthington
Evening all.
Using Excel 2007, Jaws 2022, Windows 10. I go into excel document, go into cell, and want to edit a certain letter in that cell. I press the f2 key and it say edit. All is good. I press the home key to get to front of text and using the number pad it says...what ever key is there. Now the issue. How in the heck do I get to the letter I want to change?? I press the f6 key to go next letter and nothing happens. So, how do I get to whatever letter I want to change, edit, and then edit it?? I am really lost on this one. Remember, Excel for dummies. Thanks. What I am after is what keystrokes to move aroung in edit field, and if done, press the escape key to get out of it or???? Thanks -- Morey Worthington

the sound is generated from the screen reader being used. in all cases, the sound is different when using NVDA, JAWS, or Narrator.

Date: Saturday, January 15, 2022, 2:48 PM To: main@jfw.groups.io Mark, hopefully someone can explain it better, but the sound you are referring to is to alert you that the caps lock is on. for example, you start typing normally and press the shift key with a letter intending to capitalize it, but the keyboard beeps indicating that you actually are temporarily making the letter that you pressed simultaneously with the shift key lowercase, indicating that the caps lock is on. therefore what you have typed up until pressing the shift key might have been unknowingly capitalized. -------- Original Message -------- From: Mark [mailto:mweiler@...] Subject: What do the sound indicators, like beeps and chimes, mean? But in the case of the beep where the caps lock is on, then typing shift + letter, that beep only happens when JAWS is on. Is there also a list of what these JAWS sounds mean? .
