Hi,

It's not under File and never has been.

It's under Options, then Braille.

All the best

Hi all,

I feel a little silly because I can't figure this out on my own, but jaws 2022 looks different enough that I'm stumped.

I have a focus 40 display and I want to add braille support to jaws on my windows laptop. I used to do that on the jaws screen under file but that doesn't appear to be the case any longer.

Could someone please give me directions?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Kimber,

I have my JAWS in the notification area, but I think this will still help. In JAWS go to the file tab, then options and arrow down. One option is braille. Press enter on that and tab a couple of times to "add braille display." If that still doesn't help, let me know, and I will take my JAWS out of the notification area and take a look.

Take care and stay safe!

Debby

Another way to handle tables in Outlook is to prevent it from handling them
as tables. In the following instructions posted by Mike B, I don't recall if
medium" applies to all users or just those who have made that setting. You
may need to substitute your setting on line 6:

1. Open the Settings Center while in Outlook with the keystroke, Insert + 6, on the number row.

2. Down arrow or first-letter navigate to, Web / HTML / PDFs closed, right arrow to open.

3. Down arrow or first-letter navigate to, Reading, right arrow to open.

4. Down arrow or first-letter navigate to, Configure Web Verbosity Levels closed, right arrow to open.

5. Down arrow or first-letter navigate to, Medium..., spacebar to open.  Don't press enter.

moderated Excel O365 + Fusion 2022 - slow/hanging when navigating #fusion

Tim Dixon

Hello All,

I have been using Fusion for a couple of years now and have never managed to get this issue resolved.

I run a Dell 7410, Windows 10, Office 365 Semi Annual updates and Fusion 2022.

If I open an Excel with ~1000 rows then Excel will slow down to a crawl/become unresponsive. As soon as I disable Fusion, the system comes back to life.

I still have some sight, so I tend to just close Fusion and used Win10 Colour Invert to work around it - but obviously this isn't a good long term solution.

I have this on many sheets, including new sheets I have just created. I have also seen it when the file is local on the C drive and when Synced by OneDrive, as I know OneDrive Sync can slow things down at times.

Does anyone have any ideas on what might be causing the issue?

Kind Regards
Tim

I agree, but what you outlined is "Option 2" in the article I linked to.  It is the most sensible, and completely browser agnostic, way to create a desktop shortcut to a website.  And using that method ensures that it will open using whatever you have defined as the default web browser on your machine (regardless of Windows version).

Because that's what I wrote it for.  The original material dates from Window 7.  Certain procedures have not changed in a very long time, and I'm not rewriting every tutorial when I expect that if I refer to it that should indicate it will work in a given Windows version whether that's what it was explicitly written for or not.

I'll also add that anything that finally gets people OFF of Windows 7 at this point should be encouraged.  It is out-of-support and poses a danger to cyberspace in general, not just the user, as it is a platform that is becoming more and more compromised by the day as new vulnerabilities are discovered that will never be patched.

That, while great for you, won't help others who may come upon this topic looking for answers themselves.  Thus, I'll offer the followng tutorial, written by Bill White:

Creating a Desktop Shortcut for a Program/App Under Windows 10

             by Bill White

Steps 1 through 8 create a permanent desktop shortcut to the AppsFolder.  This is optional.  If you prefer not to do this, then you can simply hit WinKey+R, then enter shell:Appsfolder, then hit enter and continue at step 10.

1. Go to your desktop and make sure nothing is selected. To do this: press CONTROL plus SPACE, then JAWS (or other screen reader) should say, “Not Selected.”  If you need to, hit CTRL+SPACE again.

2. Press Applications/Menu Key or SHIFT plus F10, and Arrow down to the New Submenu, then press ENTER.

3. ARROW down to Shortcut then press ENTER.

4. When it asks you to type the location of the shortcut, type:  %windir%\explorer.exe shell:Appsfolder

5. TAB to the Next button then press ENTER.

6. When it asks for a name for the shortcut, press the DELETE key then type:  AppsFolder

7. TAB to the Finish button, then press ENTER.

8. Now, on your desktop, you will have a shortcut that reads:  AppsFolder

9. If you press ENTER on the AppsFolder shortcut, a special Windows system folder will open containing all of your apps.

10. Use First-letter Navigation to find and select the app for which you want the shortcut on your desktop.

11. Hit the Applications/Menu Key, or SHIFT+F10, down arrow to Create Shortcut, then press ENTER.

12. When it tells you that a shortcut can’t be created here, and it asks if you want a shortcut on the desktop, press ENTER on Yes.

13. That’s it. Now you will have a shortcut for your chosen app on the desktop.  If you followed steps 1 through 8, there will also now be a shortcut to the AppsFolder on your desktop, you’d just pick up at step 9 rather than step 1 the next time you need a desktop shortcut for an app.

or this tutorial that I wrote, downloadable in MS-Word format:

Hi,

Go to the desktop.

Press Control Space until it says Not Selected, so that no items are selected on the desktop.

Press Shift F10 or the applications key.

Press W for New, then S for shortcut.

In the target field, enter your website URL, then tab and give it a name, then hit finish.

All done.

Brian,

While I appreciate your time and effort in helping me with my computer problem, I don’t wish for us to keep looking for a solution.

I’ve been saying that both my display and computer don’t automatically go to sleep, I have now been told that the display does go to sleep; it’s just the computer that does not. Being totally blind, I can’t tell on my own what the display does. So, the problem is not serious enough to pursue any further. Besides, I’ll be getting a new computer soon, and will need to start dealing with Windows 11, so I’ll have plenty of new and interesting challenges to deal with.

Thanks,

Paul

You need to tell your system from Taskbar properties to display the Network icon in the system tray.  Try this:
1. From the desktop press, Windows key + T, to open the Taskbar, and press, Alt + Enter, to open the Taskbar properties.

2. Tab to Notification area customize button, and press enter.

3. Tab to, Network..., and up arrow to, show icon in notifications.

4. Tab to, Okay, press the spacebar and again tab to, Okay, and press enter to save / close.

You can also go to the control panel /             Network and sharing..., and press enter.  I can't give you steps from here since I'm connected  via ethernet, but try pressing enter on the, connect or disconnect link, or find the Wifi option and press enter on it.  Sorry but this is the best I can do at the moment.
