Outlook red flag
John Doering
Hello: I am using Outlook 365 JAWS 2019 and Windows 10. I am accidentally hitting something that puts a red flag on some of my messages in my in box. Is there an easy way to turn off this red flag? Thanks in advance.

Re: My Nerdy Approach to Creating and Managing Favorites
Bill White
Hi, Curtis. I can actually make two of the steps for creating favorites even simpler. After making sure nothing is selected, and pressing CONTROL plus SHIFT plus F10, just press W, followed by S, and Arrowing to "New" followed by arrowing to Shortcut is eliminated. W, followed by S eliminates the steps involving arrowing to New and to Shortcuts.

Greetings everyone:
I thought it might be helpful to the group if I passed along a solution for managing website favorites which works across all of the Windows browsers I have worked with over the years: Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, and Microsoft Edge.
First, I created a folder within My Documents called Favorites. There is nothing magical about the name of the folder. You can call it anything you like. This is where you would store any Favorite that you create.
Second, using Edge or any other browser, go to the web page for which you would like to create a favorite or shortcut. Press ALT+D or CTRL+L (it really doesn't matter) to move the focus to the address bar. Since the URL contained in the address bar is already highlighted (selected), press CTRL+C to copy the URL to the Windows Clipboard.
With File Explorer, open the Favorites folder you have created. Press CTRL+SPACE a couple of times to ensure that nothing is selected. JAWS should tell you when the line item is not selected.
Now, press Shift+F10 to open up a context menu and up arrow to New. Press right arrow to open the submenu and press down arrow to Shortcut. Press Enter.
Paste the URL you copied earlier into the edit field and tab once to type a name for the Shortcut. Then, press Enter.
That's all there is to it. Any time you want to manage or go to a favorite, use File Explorer first to locate the favorite and then press Enter to activate it.
Cordially,

Greetings:
I don’t understand how you can paste something into Word from Acrobat Reader which JAWS is not detecting. It is highly possible that Acrobat Reader is displaying the PDF in protected view. This is a setting you can change in the Acrobat Reader preferences.

Assuming that you are running a recent version of Jaws and are using Adobe Reader to open the PDF file, Jaws will perform an automatic OCR and attempt to read the context of the document to you.
I know that Jaws 2021 and 2022 will do the automatic OCR. I am not certain how far back you need to go when this feature was built into the program.
I had this problem in the past and FS had me perform a Jaws repair and the problem was resolved. Jaws recognizes that the PDF is a scanned image and attempts to perform an OCR to read the context of the image to you.
Good luck, Mario

I have a Del desktop computer about 5 months old and I am having an audio problem that I can not find solution to. The problem is very basey audio after Del upgrades about December 8, 2021 and before del upgrades the audio was great. I have checked every setting that I can possibly think of without success. Jaws is not the problem as jaws is working fine. I am thinking of calling Dell for help as the problem seems to be in the computer settings someplace. If anyone on the list has called del for help I would like to know how things worked out for you. I have checked programs and features etc but find nothing there. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Also, on you tube it is so basey that I can not listen. I know that this is a blundering message but hope it can be understood. I am using W10 and latest jaws..
Thanks much,

Re: Suggestion for editing favorites by copying the link and pasting it into a folder doesn't work in Edge for me. Please try again?

Hi Ashleigh,
I am the one who wrote those directions. I thought they would work in the favorites as well as on the favorites bar, but they do not seem to work in the favorites. However, if you have the favorites bar visible, the directions work. I tested that again this morning. By the way, I get to my favorites bar by going to the top of a webpage and then press shift tab. I don’t know why the directions are not working in the favorites itself. Maybe someone else can tell us.
Take care and stay safe!

Hello, I just found out that the suggestion someone posted here for copying a favorite in Edge and moving it to another folder doesn’t work for me. Please come up with another way? I’ve been opening the link, manually putting it into the folder I wish to, and so on. It’s painstaking, but that’s the only way I can think of. When I finished copying the link from one website, I didn’t find anything about pasting it into the folder I wished to. I didn’t even find a cut option, thank God, but … I’m still using Windows 10 and won’t upgrade until I absolutely have to. Ashleigh S. Piccinino P.S. After you opened the file in the Acrobat Reader, Did you try using the layered command to OCR the file and if you did, what was the result?
The Layered command is JAWS Key + Spacebar + V + O + D.
And, if you are looking for help try to respond back as soon as possible.

Most folks won't have Hibernate, as that's off by default and I enabled it, but you should get Sleep, Shutdown, and Restart on a laptop. Brian,
A couple times you have asked: "Do you have a Sleep option showing up in your Power Menu?" This is what is on my computer: Control Panel / Hardware and Sound / Power Options / Change when the computer sleeps / Change plan settings. Then it gives me these two options: Turn off the Display and Put the computer to sleep. There are drop-downs to set the times of your choice. I have set 10 minutes for both settings. I hope this answers your question to help us determine the root cause, and then the fix, for my problem. As a reminder, this function to automatically Turn off the Display and Put the computer to sleep, worked properly on my computer with JAWS 2021, but not with JAWS 2022. Thanks, Paul

Hi,
Do the following using the JAWS Layered Command:
Press Insert (JAWS Key) followed by the letter V.
Press the letter O.
Then, finally press the letter D.
Do this while you have the empty document opened in the Acrobat Reader.
Be sure that if you are using Windows 10 that you have installed the latest version of Acrobat Reader DC in the 64 bit version. Also, you need to be running the latest version of JAWS for the best possible result.
You can also find more OCR Layered commands when you Press Insert followed by the letter V, then the Questions Mark.
Another way you could scan the blank document is by running File Explorer and going to the folder where the file is located and highlighting it.
Once the file is highlighted, press your application key and arrow down to Convenient OCR with JAWS to Word.
You also have Convenient OCR available in that menu as well.
Hope all this helps.
