Hi Steve

So  Can you explained to me whenever I open the microsoft office outlook2007  email  then I always press ctrl + m then  jaws say cancel  then say the download percentage  like  0% 10% 55% and 100% then it take me on the unread email  and that also when I press f9 key too.

So if you want download  all the email in your inbox folder  ,What you do to do that? Do you press f9 key or what?I stilled can’t get f9  work and ctrl + m won’t works either !!

No, CTRL M is to refresh your mailboxes, so this is the correct key. It both sends and delivers.

Hi All,

Just to make sure everyone is on the same page:

Acrobat DC is the free version to read PDF files. It cannot do ocr on a file. If are using it and you get the “empty document) message you will need to use JAWS Convenient OCR. (If you decide to download Acrobat DC, be careful to uncheck the various boxes so that you don’t download something that you don’t want.)

Acrobat Pro is a paid version that can do ocr. It has been almost 6 years since I used it, so I can’t precisely remember how to get it to do OCR on an “empty document,” but it seems that it was pretty automatic.

You can use JAWS Convenient OCR on a file in file explorer or your documents without opening the file. Just use the application key or shift F10 and arrow down the list to find it. I think this will probably work whether or not you have Acrobat DC or Acrobat Pro on your machine, but I am not completely sure.

I hope that helps a bit.

Happy New Year!

Hi All,

At work, I have Jaws 2020 with Windows 10, I believe.

I have Adobe Acrobat Pro.

When I open PDF documents from the data bases we use, sometimes, I’m told that the document is empty. I am then asked if I want Jaws to use OCR for recognition.

I of course say yes, and things work beautifully.

How can I get this to work at home?

I have Jaws 2020 and Windows 10 but I don’t have Adobe Acrobat.

Will I need this to use Jaw’s OCR capabilities?

Thanks.

Hi,

I recommend Quickbooks Online. It is web-based, so no software need be installed, and you can easily set up team users.

You can also set up your accountant with a password too if you have one.

I am not sure of the current accessibility status of Quicken (no longer an Intuit product) and Quickbooks (an Intuit product).

Give their 800 numbers a call, as well as visit their web sites, to understand more.

The complexity of your business will probably dictate which product is best for you.

You really have only one choice and that is the Perkins Braille Writer. I don’t think you are looking for the electric one.

You can find brand new ones at Perkins Store. Price is around $900.00

Here is the web URL to the Perkins Store for Braille Writers:

You can find people selling secondhand Perkins Braillers ranging in price from around $250.00 and I have seen some going for as high as $400.00. Ads are usually found on blindads a listserv found on groups.io, and you can find ads in the Braille Forum from the American Council of the Blind and the Braille Monitor from the National Federation of the Blind.

Hi,

Adobe can read a document aloud if you prefer this to your screen reader.  Also Adobe lets you set accessibility parameters each time you open a document or you can manage setting in the accessibility menu.

Adobe cannot read a scanned image and neither can JAWS unless you use OCR in JAWS.

You want the perkins, it's essentially the only option.
For a reliable machine look for a second hand one; the newer ones are
very cheaply made and have a habit of jamming or falling apart on you.
Even the ones they (at least used to) sell as 'classic' aren't as
reliable as a good, old, perkins brailler.
If you happen to be in the UK I have two to sell, but otherwise you
should find some on blind sale groups or even often on ebay.

Hi,

May want to delete and try again or edit setting for this account.

Hey there.

I’m afraid it’s been  a few years now since I used it, so I can’t exactly tell you what steps to take. Plus, it was an old pre-DC version, so things may have changed since then. However a quick google search seems to suggest this is still something Acrobat Pro can do, so I would take a poke around and see what you find.

Adobe Acrobat Pro actually has its own oCR component and it probably does a better job than jAWS does (it is certainly better at dealing with larger files). Does the dialogue you see at work actually mention JAWS? Now I’m curious. My Adobe Pro at home is broken so I can’t really check – in any case now I have Abbyy Finereader which does the job quite nicely.

Subject: Jaws and OCR?

Thanks.

Claudia

You really have only one choice and that is the Perkins Braille Writer. I don’t think you are looking for the electric one.

You can find brand new ones at Perkins Store. Price is around $900.00

Here is the web URL to the Perkins Store for Braille Writers:

https://brailler.perkins.org/pages/perkins-brailler

You can find people selling secondhand Perkins Braillers ranging in price from around $250.00 and I have seen some going for as high as $400.00. Ads are usually found on blindads a listserv found on groups.io, and you can find ads in the Braille Forum from the American Council of the Blind and the Braille Monitor from the National Federation of the Blind.

I didn't know about Insert + A. but my laptop has an awkward insert key that requires a difficult hand movement.  To get the insert functionality, I have to press function with one hand and the print screen key with another. thoughts on that?
