I may be grasping at straws but the fact that I have jaws 17 installed on my computer as well would that be the problem? The dialogue box says user account control do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device? Ok, when you see/hear User Access Control, you are installing a program on your computer and to start and complete the installation you need to press and hold the ALT and press the letter Y to accept this dialogue.

Zoe, I think it would help if we knew the exact text of the dialog. I gather that Windows seems to be asking for your permission to allow a specific program to make changes but we don’t know what that program is. Can you give us the exact text of the dialog?

salesforce with screen readers
Afik Souffir
Hi
I'm working with Salesforce – the lightening version, with JAWS or NVDA.
I don't know why, but on certain tabs on salesforce itself, when I'm pressing "close tab" button, the browser crushing and not responding. Without screen reader it's not happening, according to sighted assistance. We checked on my personal laptop, and on my organization laptop. We checked with Brave, Chrome, Firefox, and Edge – same result.
Any help will be really appreciated!!!!!
Thanks much

Did the sighted person tell you what programme was triggering the dialogue box? I see no indication from your message that it necessarily has anything to do with JAWS, though why it’s not speaking the prompt, I don’t know. It sounds like your standard User Account Control dialogue box, though. This is a useful thing in Windows and I wouldn’t turn it off, personally, though keeping it at 33% is fine for me. How many times did you reboot the system/did the dialogue appear?

I haven’t used jaws in a while so please bear with me, I may need step-by-step instructions. I went into the basics menu and I clicked on jaws start up, I think that’s what it was called. Then I checked the boxes for logging on at the login screen, and the check box for logon after login ,and I set the combo box to always. I click okay but when I restart my computer I hear jaws speaking at the logon screen, I type in my password, and I am taken to my desktop, at this point there is no speech, then my desktop disappears, and a dialogue box appears saying that this program wants to make changes to your computer et cetera et cetera et cetera or at least something to that effect. there is a yes button and no button and a cancel button ,I click alt why because I’ve been told what’s on the screen by a sighted person and then it goes to my desktop and jaws start sspeaking. how can I get rid of this dialogue box appearing? Re: Question about something called power shell folder.

Hello Albert.
It’s a command interface for automating and performing certain operations on your pc. You can write scripts for it and either run it from a command line or the new integrated environment thing, which is a graphical interface. It can be quite useful, but there’s no real reason for you to have a folder like that on your desktop. If you’re running windows 10, it comes with the oS, but normally just sits there til you invoke it. It could have been used by some script to install something from the microsoft store or another package repository. I’d just see what’s inside the folder.

Hello Kane:

I am running the exact same software as you, and I have a Gmail account. I switched my Gmail to Basic HTML and opened up your message. I then found the text with the JAWS virtual cursor on and was able to read it without the annoying repetitive information you described. I switched to Basic HTML while reviewing my Gmail inbox. I am running the latest versions of both Chrome and JAWS on a Windows 10 computer at level 21H2. I suspect none of this is relevant other than the versions of JAWS and Chrome. My JAWS verbosity level is set to intermediate if that has any bearing on this<smile>. Warmly, Curtis Chong

Since updating my JFW 2022 over the weekend per the subscription I have, I've been met with a really annoying tendency: At times I still use the Basic HTML view in Gmail to interact with or compose e-mail. Whenever I am in the body of a message I am editing, the word "message body" is repeated whenever I scroll up or down through a line of text. Whenever I come to a blank line--instead of identifying that line as blank, JAWS every time says "message body message body." It reads this tag at the close of every line that contains text as well inside the edit field. Adjusting the verbosity settings within JAWS does not seem to help with this. The effect I'm speaking of seems most pronounced with Google Chrome, which is now my preferred browser. I am not currently seeing this with Firefox; so until I solve this Chrome issue, I will use Firefox with the Web version of Gmail. I'm using JAWS 2022.2112.24 on a Dell Precision notebook running Windows 10. Thank you for any help you might be able to offer. Kind regards, -Kane

Re: Merry Christmas
Angel
Every year I read on some list or other discussions regarding whether or not to wish others a Merry Christmas; on lists which have nothing at all to do with religion. It is sad. Particularly at a time in our history when other minority groups are demanding, and for the most part getting the respect they deserve. Can’t we keep religion off secular lists. Not all of us are Christian. Sent from Mail for Windows

I have to say I'm a Christian, an Anglican priest, and I don't feel the need to proselytize at Christmas. Many persons wish others a Merry Christmas, and it's just a friendly greeting of the season. Christmas, apart from religious significance for some of us, is a time of special time with family or friends, a time apart from normal routines when people can relax and take time they might not normally do, to enjoy loved ones and special treats.
So, merry Christmas to all! May each of us find a break from COVID grimness!

Nothing pisses me off more than when someone’s religion is disrespected. Many Christians need to proselytize to practice their faith. It is not unusual for deeply Christian people to offer strangers cheer and fellowship near the holiest of days. That is part of their religious practice.
