I Cannot Use National Day Calendar's Home Page Anymore with JAWS

Dear Listers:
My favorite website today is https://nationaldaycalendar.com. Until just a couple of weeks I used to go to this page every morning. All of a sudden whenever I would go to this page I found myself unable to use it. The page would load. When the load was completed JAWS would read how many regions there were on the page and how many headings and then would start reading all of the links and all of the headings. When I would hit the Control key to silence JAWS and then try to arrow to the link I wanted to activate the only link that would appear was a link called “adchoices.” I contacted National Day Calendar via Facebook and they told me they were upgrading their site. But even now after almost two weeks whenever I try to load this webpage JAWS will read off the names of the links, but when I silence it I cannot go to the link I want to. I have tried using both my default browser, Microsoft Word and Google Chrome. Sometimes I will just have the “adchoices,” link, and at other times JAWS will just say “home page,” after I silence it after it automatically starts reading all of the links. I am using Windows 2010 and JAWS 2022. Can either of you give me some advice as to how I can rectify this problem? By the way, this only happens with National Day Calendar and not with any other webpage.

@Adrian: Yeah I think I'll definitely throw forward that suggestion for a passthrough toggle, it'd be a neat idea. With that being said, there's very few cases where I'd probably use it, but could potentially be an easy way to get around the issues people sometimes have with Jaws intercepting keys before the application. I also haven't played either of them since they were released so that would explain it. ☺ This is exactly the kind of thing I was trying to do, I was trying to make a new keymap for the application but for whatever reason I couldn't see it in the keyboard manager (even running it from the quick settings menu). In years past, I seem to recall being able to choose from any open applications when choosing new keymap? I of course could be totally wrong and I'm misunderstanding how keyboard manager works now. I'm about to go look at that post you linked to, this could also answer some questions. @Steve: Again thanks for the suggestion. I'll totally try that if I can figure out why I can't seem to be able to create a new keymap for this specific application. Unless it's something I'm supposed to make in notepad now? For anyone curious, the application in question I was trying to work with is called Visual Boy Advance, which is an emulator for Gameboy Advance/Colour/Original. I discovered that there are scripts to make the first 2 generations of Pokemon games accessible. I personally felt super nostalgic as I'd played them as a kid, so thought I'd go and revisit them again. I personally ended up modifying the Visual Boy Advance keymap as well as the Pokemon Access script keys to get around the issue for the time being and found that I actually enjoyed this new configuration loads better personally. I still figured I'd keep this discussion going though as I do have other games I'd want to try this with. Also it's an issue I keep seeing Jaws users talk about from time to time and knew people had been getting around it.

You can also hold the Windows key and use the number row to open pinned Apps on your Taskbar. For example, the second pinned App on my Taskbar is Microsoft Edge, so I can hold the Windows key and press 2 to launch Edge from anywhere.

A suggestion go pole down the jaws 2022 version for installing insecure environments that version has everything packaged together so that during the install there is no need for the jobs program to go out and talk to the servers at the sparrow that should fix your problem have a good day

Hi, Which checkboxes? Are you talking about things like “Widgets” and ‘Chat” toggle buttons/checkboxes? If so, they are really toggle switches that gets “toggled on” when the user activates the button in question. For example, if focused on Start button, it’ll show up as “toggled on” if you press Windows key to open Start menu. I suspect this has to do with something beyond a screen reader’s control (in a way, screen readers can control how things are announced to users, but when it comes to the underlying info screen readers get, it’s really the territory of UI team at Microsoft).
