With JAWS 2021 running. do this. Insert key H,Z, this will open the start up options and make sure you don't have 2021 set to start up at log on or startup after log on.

Are you certain the shortcut on your desktop is set for JFW 2022 correctly?

From the desktop find JAWS 2022, now use, Alt+Enter

Tab through the dialog setting the shortcut key to Alt+Control+J

If JAWS 2021 is still set to, Alt+Control+J, the above won’t work until you change 2021 or use a different combination for JAWS 2022.

Yep, press JAWS Key and 3, then type in the key. It will be passed to the application.

Hi there list,
I've started using Jaws again recently after not using it for at least a good decade, so I'm still catching up to speed here.
Basically though, I'm wanting to bypass certain keys and have that key passed through to the application. Is this something I am able to do/how would I be able to do it?

It sounds like you have that keystroke Control Alt J set up for JAWS 2021.

JAWS doesn’t set that keystroke up by default, so you  must have done it.

Go into the properties of your JAWS 2021 icon, go to the Shortcut tab and check that the keystroke is Control Alt J. If it is, press delete on it, then that keystroke will be undefined.

Now pop in the JAWS 2022 properties and define that key in the Shortcut tab. Now when you press Control Alt J, 2022 will open.

You can also go to the Run menu, Windows and R, and type without the quotes “jaws2022” and press enter, and that version of JAWS will be loaded.

All the best

Press insert V, like Victor. In the search box type color. Arrow down to Font, color, and attribute detection indication and hit the to select it. Then when you go to a cell that is different than the one you were on the attributes will be spoken.

I definitely get a lot of good info when hitting JAWS F – often more than I really need. The sound scheme would be valuable when I’m working on files with others.  Many people color code cells and I’d love to have a way to be alerted as I arrow through information as to whether the font color or fill color is different.  I know people mean well using color.  I’ve also thought of using the filter by color option, but it all seems to be based on knowing the numeric color codes.  This latter item is on my list to someday call Microsoft Accessibility about.  I’d love to be able to turn on autofilter, then sort by whatever colors someone has used to flag items in a particular column. If I could get one of both of these methods working, I’d be more comfortable using color to better mark things for my colleagues, too.

In the meantime, can you use Jaws key plus f when on a cell to get all of its information? I don't know if I ever tried that. Maybe that's why people claimed my sheets weren't visually appealing, but they got the job done.

Bill,

Not that I'm arguing anything that you've said, but this is still using File Explorer, just invoking it such that a specific folder opens when it opens.

What you propose is a great convenience, and a wonderful functional workaround.  But if someone is having consistent issues navigating File Explorer, I'd also say that they need to practice, practice, practice.  It's such a fundamental part of using Windows, and you'll never have desktop shortcuts for every folder you ever want to access, that developing confidence in using File Explorer is time incredibly well spent.

Not only that, but it's not difficult to get the hang of, either.

If you are comfortable carrying out the following, I would be interested in the version number at the end of the instructions.

Good morning Jeff,

Right after I received your message, I did just now, check and my shortcut key for Jaws says that it is set for Jaws 2022.  But in the about section of the Jaws manual in the about, is continues too say that it is Jaws 2021.

Good morning everyone,

Around a week or so ago, I installed Jaws 2022 and am having a real problem that I don’t know how too remedy.    It seems that whenever I press the insert F4 command too turn off the Jaws speech and then resume Jaws speech with control plus alt plus J,  Jaws reverts back too Jaws 2021.  I know this, because when I go too where it says jaws home manual and do the alt plus a key and check where it says about key, it says that Jaws 2021, and not Jaws 2022 instead.  I did call Jaws tech support where we performed a uninstall  of Jaws 2021 and did a complete reinstall of Jaws2022, but this problem still exists.  I’ve also ran a Jaws repair about three times,  but with no resolution.

I’m worried that if I  call tech support back with this ongoing issue, I don’t want them too think that I’m  some kind of nut job.

Hi Loy,

I did make a shortcut for Jaws 2021, but I deleted it off of my desktop and created one for Jaws 2022.

Phillip,

I don't see why they wouldn't, but it's not something I ever tried when I was using Excell for eight hours a day. I'll try to sit down and play with it later.

In the meantime, can you use Jaws key plus f when on a cell to get all of its information? I don't know if I ever tried that. Maybe that's why people claimed my sheets weren't visually appealing, but they got the job done.

Hi there list,
I've started using Jaws again recently after not using it for at least a good decade, so I'm still catching up to speed here.
Basically though, I'm wanting to bypass certain keys and have that key passed through to the application. Is this something I am able to do/how would I be able to do it?

James

Question:

Are you running Windows 7 perchance? If you are, you will not be able to update to JAWS 2022 inasmuch as Windows 7 is no longer supported in this latest version of JAWS.

Warmly,
