Re: Do sound schemes work in Excel?
Van Lant, Robin
Phillip, I definitely get a lot of good info when hitting JAWS F – often more than I really need. The sound scheme would be valuable when I’m working on files with others. Many people color code cells and I’d love to have a way to be alerted as I arrow through information as to whether the font color or fill color is different. I know people mean well using color. I’ve also thought of using the filter by color option, but it all seems to be based on knowing the numeric color codes. This latter item is on my list to someday call Microsoft Accessibility about. I’d love to be able to turn on autofilter, then sort by whatever colors someone has used to flag items in a particular column. If I could get one of both of these methods working, I’d be more comfortable using color to better mark things for my colleagues, too.

make sure the shortcut is set to something else but alt, control, J. I use

Question:
Are you running Windows 7 perchance? If you are, you will not be able to update to JAWS 2022 inasmuch as Windows 7 is no longer supported in this latest version of JAWS.

Good morning Jeff,
Right after I received your message, I did just now, check and my shortcut key for Jaws says that it is set for Jaws 2022. But in the about section of the Jaws manual in the about, is continues too say that it is Jaws 2021.

Are you certain the shortcut on your desktop is set for JFW 2022 correctly? From the desktop find JAWS 2022, now use, Alt+Enter Tab through the dialog setting the shortcut key to Alt+Control+J If JAWS 2021 is still set to, Alt+Control+J, the above won’t work until you change 2021 or use a different combination for JAWS 2022.

Good morning everyone,
Around a week or so ago, I installed Jaws 2022 and am having a real problem that I don’t know how too remedy. It seems that whenever I press the insert F4 command too turn off the Jaws speech and then resume Jaws speech with control plus alt plus J, Jaws reverts back too Jaws 2021. I know this, because when I go too where it says jaws home manual and do the alt plus a key and check where it says about key, it says that Jaws 2021, and not Jaws 2022 instead. I did call Jaws tech support where we performed a uninstall of Jaws 2021 and did a complete reinstall of Jaws2022, but this problem still exists. I’ve also ran a Jaws repair about three times, but with no resolution.
I’m worried that if I call tech support back with this ongoing issue, I don’t want them too think that I’m some kind of nut job.

Focus on the desktop icon you want to delete, then press the context menu key or Shift-F10, and scroll to the delete option. This only deletes the desktop shortcut, not the program or file itself.

Kevin:
Press WINDOWS KEY+R, to open the Run command edit
field. Enter the drive specification in the edit fieled, for example, c:\ or any
other drive you have connected to your system, using the same format. This will
open Windows explorer and it gives focus to the root folder of the specified drive.

In the meantime, can you use Jaws key plus f when on a cell to get all of its information? I don't know if I ever tried that. Maybe that's why people claimed my sheets weren't visually appealing, but they got the job done.

Do sound schemes work in Excel?
Van Lant, Robin
Hi, I’m learning about sounds schemes and have started using them in Word and Outlook for proofreading. I watched a YouTube video on tweaking a sound scheme, which I think I’ll need to do in order to get strike-through to be read out. I’m excited about the prospect of having a sound scheme that would automatically announce the font and fill color of each cell in Excel. I just tried every default sound scheme and none of the ones listed as announcing color do anything in my test Excel file. Wondering if anyone has attempted this and gotten it to work? I’m currently concerned that Excel isn’t seeing cell contents in the way needed to make sounds schemes work.
TIA,
Robin Van Lant, Sr. Program Manager Key Equipment Finance & Key Institutional Bank 720-304-1060

Re: moving files from a folder
Kevin,
No one has ever proposed using the method you're trying in the way you're trying it. If you want a shortcut to This PC on the desktop, the way to get it has remained pretty much unchanged for a while now. See this tutorial: How to Add This PC to Desktop in Windows 10 I doubt it's any different in Windows 11, either, but have not had any opportunity to confirm that. If you activate the This PC desktop shortcut File Explorer opens in precisely the same way as it always does with focus on This PC already having been selected in the tree view and the various libraries, drives, and devices over in the file list. -- Brian - Windows 10, 64-Bit, Version 21H1, Build 19043 Science has become just another voice in the room; it has lost its platform. Hi Brian, I went to This PC and pressed shift f10. There is no pinn to start. There is a unpin from start. I also pressed the right mouse key and it also just says unpin from start. Is there another way to pin The PC to the desk top? I should also say it gives the option to pin to quick access. I rather put it on the desk top.

Hi everyone,
I bought a new laptop last year, but I didn’t ask for the best laptop to use with fusion, and I regretted it. Now I really need to get one that will work for me. I use fusion, I mostly use jaws but there are still times when the magnification is important. What laptop would work best? Thank you for your recommendations! Bonnie Vegiard

Hi, Brian. Using This PC is the only shortcut anyone needs to access a drive or folder. You are still using File Explorer. Also, and it's really not all that important that I do understand, I really don't understand what's difficult about navigating tree view and opening folders. Yes, it's easier via point and click, but I can get through navigating in File Explorer via the keyboard pretty slickly, too. What you're doing is just going about it in a slightly different way, which is fine. Windows virtually always gives multiple methods to achieve the same ends. Personally, I'm far more inclined to use Quick Access and pin what I need there if I need repeated quick access to a specific folder on any non-removable drive. -- Brian - Windows 10, 64-Bit, Version 21H1, Build 19043 Science has become just another voice in the room; it has lost its platform.
