Date: Monday, November 22, 2021, 1:17 PM To: main@jfw.groups.io Hi Mark, the reason JAWS is speaking some strings twice is as follows: JAWS uses some framework to gather information like the page title.Since a few years there's a new framework called UIA. JAWS hooks itself in the UIA framework and gets the information there. But the old one still exists and this is reason some things are spoken twice. And because UIA has a lot of information (at least in Microsoft Edge) JAWS is quite chatty there. As far as I know there's a setting to disable the new UIA methods. Since I haven't an English version of JAWS I can't remember the exact name. I think it was something like "UIA" or "Automation". But if you disable the checkbox JAWS doesn't announce the UIA messages like the one if a download was completed. To proof if I'm right with my suspicion you can use Firefox, since Firefox doesn't use UIA. Edge is the browser which uses UIA most followed by the browser which use Chromium as a base (Google Chrome, Brave and so on). Suddenly, the items in file explorer are in reverse order—Beginning with Z and ending with A. I don’t like this because I’m not used to it. How can I reverse it back? I don’t know how it ended up this way.

Re: Jaws 2021 and OCR component not install
James Lockwood
Yes it did work at least it did last week. For some reason however after I installed Kurz well now I’m back to OCR component not installed. I have subsequently removed all the programs jaws open book, and Kurzwell and just installed jaws and it’s still saying component not installed. By the way, calling Freedom Scientific is a waste of time. Last week their suggestion was to run Windows update. This week they tell me adobe DC professional PDF reader will cause an error and that you have to use the free Adobe reader. So I uninstalled professional DC and installed the free Adobe reader, still same error. And I know that DC professional works withAnd I know that DC professional works with it because it did and still does on my prior windows machine. And despite the fact that jaws, downloads or at least it’s supposed to, the OCR component from one of their servers, there’s no way they can get you a link to download just that item. This is entirely unacceptable. The customer service is a farce. I think they flip a coin or pull a number out of a hat to determine what to tell you to do next so you get off the phone.

Re: braille writer
Bill Tessore
I tried looking for a non-electric Mount Batten braille writer that I mentioned earlier. But I too found no such device. I DID find an electronic device suitable for braille learners and even professional braille users. So it seems the manufacturers have abandoned the electricity independent model for its technologically advanced progenitor. I apologize for the confusion.

Re: Fw: [blind-t] Fw: [blind-hams] weather plus addon for nvda
Remember that an NVDA Add-On is the functional equivalent of a JAWS script.
NVDA itself does not support this natively, it's an add-on that does. That's not hair splitting, either. Were someone to wish to create a JAWS script for this function, they could. It appears that someone has, but it's not free, as Hartgen includes Weather as part of its J-Say script, but J-Say goes well beyond just that functionality. -- Brian - Windows 10, 64-Bit, Version 21H1, Build 19043 It is the function of creative men to perceive the relations between thoughts, or things, or forms of expression that may seem utterly different, and to be able to combine them into some new forms--the power to connect the seemingly unconnected. ~ William Plomer

Re: Help Using JAWS to delete Blue Mountain Contact
Bill White
Hi, Rick. I have had a similar problem with an "OK" button on Google Voice. This is what I did to invoke the "OK" button. 1. Check the check box next to the address you want to delete as you did before. 2. Find the "OK" button. 3. Route the PC Cursor to the JAWS Cursor with either JAWS key plus the plus key on the NumPad, or with CAPSLOCK plus the apostrophe key when JAWS is in Laptop Keyboard Mode. 4. Press ENTER after performing step 3. 5. Refresh the screen as Mike B suggested with JAWS key plus ESCAPE. 6. Check to see if the address has been deleted.
Please let us know if either Mike B's suggestion or my suggestion was successful in allowing you to delete the address.

Dear Listers:
Are any of you familiar with the Blue Mountain e-card service? It has e-cards for birthdays, anniversaries, etc. It also has an addressbook where you can store all your contacts. My problem is deleting a contact from the addressbook. The directions say that if you want to delete someone, check the contact and then hit the Delete button at the top of the page. I have multiple addresses for one contact and I am trying to delete one of them. When I check the box next to the address I want to delete there appears a notice to delete selected. I hit the Enter key and a dialog pops up. At the very bottom of the page there is an OK button. I hit the Enter key on it but the address I want to delete will not go away. If any of you out there have used Blue Mountain, can you give me some help and advice.

I've never used Blue Mountain, but if you're
using one of the chromium browsers, refresh the screen after clicking the
appropriate buttons to see if that helps.
Stay safe & take care. Mike. Just once, I want a username and password prompt to say: "Close Enough!"

You really have only one choice and that is the Perkins Braille Writer. I don’t think you are looking for the electric one.
You can find brand new ones at Perkins Store. Price is around $900.00
Here is the web URL to the Perkins Store for Braille Writers: https://brailler.perkins.org/pages/perkins-brailler
You can find people selling secondhand Perkins Braillers ranging in price from around $250.00 and I have seen some going for as high as $400.00. Ads are usually found on blindads a listserv found on groups.io, and you can find ads in the Braille Forum from the American Council of the Blind and the Braille Monitor from the National Federation of the Blind.

I've seen occasions where someone accidentally activated one of the other columns, say Date modified, and had no idea why their sort order in the name column looked like nothing they've ever encountered before. Some go through life aimlessly, have no idea where they are going most of the time and how they got there. One of my family members is like that. She drives like that and surfs the internet the same way, creating problems for herself and having no idea what she did to create them because she did not know what she did. .
