seeking advice regarding web browsers
Kramlinger, Keith G., M.D.
hi,
Thanks to those who answered my earlier question about windows 10 versus Windows 11. I will be sticking with windows 10, thanks to your unanimous opinions! when I last used a PC, I was using Internet explorer. That is no longer an option. I am curious as to which Web browsers people recommend for best use with Jaws. Thanks in advance for any insights. Keith

Hey Paul!
What I was actually trying to do was add voices like Tom, Emily, Serena, Daniel, Jennifer, Jill, and the like, to the Windows 10 Text-To-Speech panel. Is that actually possible? If so, what do I do?

Hi Annabelle,
I too have the old real speak voices cd which jaws used to ship with their older versions of jaws, I still use those voices on my windows 64bit system since the ones shipped on cd although only 32bit they could be used with third party software, so I often use those voices when playing audio games since I prefer those voices to the built in Microsoft voices. If you want the new 64bit voices for jaws you can download these directly from the freedom scientific website, the newer 64bit voices I believe are called ‘Vocaliser voices’. I’ll put the link below, the voices downloaded from their site though can only be used with jaws , but those are the voices I’d recommend you use if you just want to add additional voices to your installation of Jaws. If you do however specifically want to use the real speak voices from your cd I do have a modified installer which will let you install them on a 64bit machine, this is a modified version of the installer though so not an official release from jaws but something just created by a jaws user. Since it uses the voices from your CD these are still only 32bit voices and are now somewhat old and dated so they won’t sound as good as the newer vocaliser voices. If you do want the installer, To avoid breaking any list rules I can send the modified installer but it won’t actually include any of the real speak voices, so it’s just the modified installation file itself without any voices, therefore you’ll need the actual CD itself to get the voices from, as without the CD the installer won’t do anything as previously mentioned the installation file doesn’t contain any voices at all. anyway, like I said earlier the best thing if you want just the most up to date voices for Jaws is to use the ones from their website, the link to that is below you just need to select the link that is appropriate to your specific version of Jaws

Hi, it's Annabelle. I have a CD Rom of Realspeak Solo voices that came with JAWS 4.5, which includes Javier (Latin American Spanish), Tom (American English), Jennifer (American English), Emily (British English), (Daniel (British English), Serena (British English), and Paulina (Latin American Spanish), but I can't get these voices to load into JAWS 2021 in Windows 10, as the disk says they're specifically for 32-bit systems. Is there a CD ROM out there that has 64-bit versions of these SAPI 5 voices?

the maximation and I'm running chrome as my main browser. Yes an edit field pops up when the page loads. Interesting to me that it was working today in edge the way it used to in chrome, meaning I could login as a host and chat as I once could in chrome. Tony thought I should take chrome off then put it back on which i did, and which made no difference. Tina

Hi Curtis and Tony,
To add to Curtis’s excellent questions, one more that might save a little trouble if the answer is no: has your wife maximized the page? To check, press alt-spacebar, release and then arrow up or down through the options. If maximized isn’t grayed out, press the spacebar on it. If it is grayed out, then maximization isn’t the source of the problem.

Hello Tony:
I looked at the page whose link you provided, which was https://sunvalleycc.online.church/. I am running JAWS 2022 with Windows 10 21H1. I have access to the latest versions of Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome. I also have Mozilla Firefox.
On the page which appears when you activate the above link, none of my browsers will see an edit box when the JAWS command “e” is pressed. However, it is interesting that Forms Mode is automatically turned on. Here are a couple of questions that might help to address the differences in behavior between your and your wife’s computer.
1. Is there supposed to be an edit box or field on the page which comes up when the above link is activated?
2. Are you both using the same Web browser? If so, what browser is it?
3. Are you both running with the same version of JAWS? What version would that be, and if your versions are different, can you tell us what version of JAWS runs on your computer and what version runs on your wife’s system?
4. What about operating systems? Are you both running Windows 10 or is each one of you using a different operating system? If the latter, can you tell us what operating systems?
What we have here is only some of the information we need to attempt to address your issue.
With kind regards,

wWe are having an issue with JAWS and form fields on a website.
We are serving at our church and it's online and using an online platform that normally works with Jaws.
For some reason, on my wife's laptop computer, when she goes to press the leter E to go to the fiorm field, it keeps telling her there are no form fields on thsi page.
However, when I run the same page on my laptop, I can press ther letter E to see the form fields and it works properly.
We are wondering if she has a newer version of windows than I do.
What is causing this not to work? On other web pages, she can go to the edit fields.
Here is the website we are having issues with.

Alt+2- I'll second this recommendation. Although, if you're working in File Explorer CTRL + SHIFT + N should work, the default of ALT + 2 (on the number line, not number pad) should also also work and save a keystroke. It is possible if someone somehow created a desktop shortcut that uses CTRL + SHIFT + N as its invocation, that would get processed by Windows itself rather than File Explorer. I just tested this out by assigning one of my desktop shortcuts the shortcut key sequence CTRL + SHIFT + N and it always causes that program to be invoked even if I'm working in File Explorer at the time. The processing hierarchy for any keyboard shortcut is Windows, Screen reader (when you are using one), application program. And if either Windows or the Screen Reader processes a keyboard shortcut the application program will never have the chance (ignoring the use of a screen reader pass-through command). -- Brian - Windows 10, 64-Bit, Version 21H1, Build 19043 It is the function of creative men to perceive the relations between thoughts, or things, or forms of expression that may seem utterly different, and to be able to combine them into some new forms--the power to connect the seemingly unconnected. ~ William Plomer

I’m not sure if others have noticed this problem. I will say that this does not affect any of the JAWS 2022 betas or the final version. With the latest update for JAWS 2021 I am noticing some extra wording when holding down the alt key and repeatedly pressing the tab key to navigate through running applications. When you first press this key combination JAWS will say “”task switching, running applications list box.” I have noticed this behavior on two different computers, both of which are running Windows 10 version 21 H1. This behavior does not occur if you press and then release alt+tab to open the last application which had focus. I have reported this to Vispero support but they were unable to duplicate the problem.
