Hi Bill,

I notice though that not all settings are migrated faithfully.

One in particular is verbosity. I have it at intermediate, but although my settings were imported, it put me back to beginner level.

So this migration thing is not perfect yet.

All the best

Steve

Hi, Paula. Once installed, there's not an easy way to merge settings. You would need to use the Export Settings option from JAWS 2021, then use the Import Settings option to import them into JAWS 2022. These are located within the Utilities menu in JAWS. It would almost be easier to uninstall JAWS 2022, and reinstall it, using the Migrate Settings option. What I don't understand is the fact that her settings weren't migrated. This would only happen if she was trying to upgrade from an earlier JAWS version than 2021. The default behavior is to migrate settings from JAWS 2021 to JAWS 2022, and she would have had to uncheck a check box in the JAWS 2022 installer to bypass this option.

Hi all

I was working with someone yesterday who did her upgrade to Jaws 2022 but did not realise there was the option to merge settings. I have looked around as I was sure there must be an easy way to do it after the effect but I can’t find how to do it. Can someone advise me please as it would be faster than trying to go through and find all her settings again?

Cheers

Bill,

I had the same experience, even though I was upgrading from 2021 to 2022. However, once directed to the import/export utility, arrowing up once to “Migrate” solved the problem easily and quickly.

Hi all,

I downgraded successfully yesterday back to Windows 10 with JAWS. I started by going to Windows update, and then followed prompts until I found the one to Go Back.

I was having three problems with Windows 11, regardless of which screen reader I used.

  1. I could not navigate the task bar with first letter or number navigation.
  2. No PDF files were readable with any screen reader. The text was there, because I could copy it to the clipboard and then paste it into a Word doc, but I could not read it with Adobe.
  3. I could not read the options in the user access control when I went to do something that required me to select yes or no.  Yes, I know about alt-y and that did work.

Oh, there was a fourth thing.  I tried the voice typing mode, and it was very impressive, but then it stopped working.  I eventually got Microsoft support on the phone, and they discovered a pop-up that I had no awareness of.

Hello, I'm sending this email just to report a problem that I'm experiencing on my Windows 11 computer. A week ago, I installed Windows 11 on my computer and the system is good. The only problem that I'm having is everytime time I boot up my computer and start the login process and begin to typing out the password, sometimes the cursor will be stuck in one placein the password box  and will not move. I literally have to press Tab to get out of it and Shift+Tab to go back again. This is a very annoying problem and I wonder have any of you early adopters experienced this problem recently?

If you have, please let me know.

Thanks

Thanks so much Mike. We’ll try this. She is a relatively new Jaws user so maybe inadvertently ticked or unticked something when she tried the update herself.

Hi Rick

Press Shift + F6 from your list of emails until you find the Navigation Bar. Arrow to the calendar and use your Applications key or Shift + F10 to display the context menu. You will find the Dock to Peek option.

You will now have a “peek” of your calendar available when in the Mail tab of Outlook that you can navigate to using F6. It would be interesting to know if you get a different result in this peek view. I can see how this feature would be very helpful for someone sighted as a quick reference, but navigating to the Calendar with Control + 2 is probably more efficient for a JAWS user if it doesn’t provide any benefit.

Does Narrator pick up all of your appointments when navigating the calendar?

All the best.

Dear Listers:

I have just upgraded my computer to Office 365 which has a more modern version of Outlook.  I am handling e-mails fairly well, but on the calendar not all of my events, including my meetings, are showing.  I read that there is a way to solve this problem by locating the calendar on the navigation bar and then clicking “Dock the peek,” but I do not know how to do this using JAWS.  Do any of you out there know, and can one of you please give me some advice?

This is a desktop application.  I have enough vision to see that the dialog box opens pretty quickly, just as if I were to use the mouse pointer to click it, but JAWS is silent for some period of time and I don’t know what it is waiting for.  Insert Escape to redraw the screen doesn’t do anything. JAWS does not respond to trying to change the cursor type, so I am assuming it is finishing some process related to that action of hitting enter while in Touch Cursor mode.   Mainly just curious if others using the Touch Cursor see this kind of lag on whatever program you use it for.  I just tried using Touch Cursor to minimize this Outlook message and the responsiveness is very quick, so I’m wondering if it’s some quirk with Lotus Notes.  Maybe I’ll never know. The benefit of Touch cursor in this app outweighs my impatient wait for speech to resume.

Hi Robin,

This is only an idea since I've never worked with Lotus Notes.  Is it possible that the delay you're experiencing is the time it's taking for the webpage or whatever to acknowledge the activation of the button you're talking about?  I don't know if this applies, but maybe if the screen was set to refresh automatically it might help.  Or, invoke the keystroke, Insert + Escape, to repaint the screen after activating the button.

Hi,

I’ve begun using the Touch cursor to access a toolbar in a Lotus Notes database.  This has been fantastic, as I couldn’t figure out how to access the bar otherwise.  My process is to turn on Touch Cursor, then to page up to Forms mode, then arrow down to the button I need and hit return to activate.   Once clicked a little dialog pops up confirming that I approved the document and I need to click OK    My question is, once I hit Enter on the button I have found with the Touch cursor, there is quite a long delay before I hear a little click that is somehow related to the Touch cursor and then a few more seconds before I can change back to PC cursor to click that “OKâ€ button in the dialog box.  My question is, is this long delay normal when selecting something with the Touch Cursor?  The dialog is there almost immediately, but JAWS goes silent for a good 5 to 10 seconds, then I hear that little click, then I wait a few more seconds to regain speech and activate the PC cursor.

Using latest version of JAWS 2021, Windows 10 and  not sure which version of Notes.

I get it if the message was posted to lists for where it isn't

moderated Cursofr stuck at the Windows 11 log in screen

Michael Munn

Hello, I'm sending this email just to report a problem that I'm experiencing on my Windows 11 computer. A week ago, I installed Windows 11 on my computer and the system is good. The only problem that I'm having is everytime time I boot up my computer and start the login process and begin to typing out the password, sometimes the cursor will be stuck in one placein the password box  and will not move. I literally have to press Tab to get out of it and Shift+Tab to go back again. This is a very annoying problem and I wonder have any of you early adopters experienced this problem recently?
If you have, please let me know.
Thanks
best regards

Actualy this is a jaws group not a windows group , so it is in the wrong group for her particular question, and therefore should not have been posted in this group

Hi,

Is there really any need for the hostility here? She is simply trying

to get the answer as quickly as possible, and asking various groups,

whether there is overlap or not, is a good way of doing that. There

will be users here who are not on the other lists that were messaged,

I know this as this is the only message I've received on the subject.

I get it if the message was posted to lists for where it isn't

relevant (vi-phone, Manchester united supporters trust, a fantasy

basketball league) but as far as I am aware it wasn't.

Your delete key works to delete mail in most mail clients, and

deleting using most webmail services is hassle free, far easier than

ranting because someone has sent you 2 emails instead of one.

Stay safe & take care.  Mike.
Just once, I want a username and password prompt to say:  "Close Enough!"

Subject: Touch Cursor question

Once clicked a little dialog pops up confirming that I approved the document and I need to click OK    My question is, once I hit Enter on the button I have found with the Touch cursor, there is quite a long delay before I hear a little click that is somehow related to the Touch cursor and then a few more seconds before I can change back to PC cursor to click that “OK” button in the dialog box.

Hello,

Before one can answer your question I need a little more information. What version of the operating system is the computer running? Is it Windows 7 or 10?

In the Options Menu under Basic Settings, is the Check for Updates checked?

Please answer these questions and I could possibly help you a little further.

Hi, I have a question maybe someone has some advice. Back when jfw 20
21 came out, I with the help of my Dad signed up for, I think it was the next four or five updates. I haven't got any update so far. But my friend signed up for a different plan and says he's been getting all the updates for 20 21.

Ceigard:

The JAWS commands you listed, do not increase/decrease the JAWS or system volume, they take you to 2 windows, where you can use the UP ARROW and DOWN ARROW, to raise and lower the JAWS or system volume. Once you have set either volume to the level you want, you press the ESC key, to close either window.

She can use the Jaws commands:

Jaws Key + Spacebar followed by V and then J - this will raise Jaws volume

Jaws Key + Spacebar followed by V and then S - this will raise system volume

Good morning everyone,

My girlfriend has a Logitech wireless  keyboard  that she uses with her HP. Laptop  computer. However, this particular keyboard, doesn’t have a windows FNE key on it where in order for her too raise the volume, she would have too press both  the FNE    key and the F7 key too increase the volume level.  My question is, is there another key that she can use too substitute for this purpose?  She’s using Jaws 2021, and the latest windows 10.

Any and all help and suggestions and advice will be much appreciated,

You can configure the touchpad gestures to adjust volume
