If you type" Cap" in the settings center, there are some options. I saw a toggle for whether JAWS announces cap during say all and another that allows you to choose whether cap is indicated when navigating by word, character or just during spell. Especially with alphanumeric passwords where capitals can be in the middle of the word, I've definitely thought about changing this setting.

Hi, again, Ann. You can switch your JAWS Sound Scheme with the following command,

ALT plus JAWS key plus S.

If you switch to one of the following sound schemes, JAWS will say cap when a capital letter is indicated, or All Caps, if the word is in all capital letters,

Madison,
I have a free Outlook.com address for personal email It filters a tiny bit, but it generally seems pretty accurate at sending true spam to the junk filter. I only access my email through Outlook 2016 and via the native app on my iPhone, Sometimes a message will show in my inbox on the iphone, but when I open my inbox in Outlook on my laptop, the message will move to Junk; I think because I have marked that sender as Junk from within Outlook 2016. I thought most of these services had ways you can set your filtering level on the web; I don't seem to miss any message.

moderated email service issue

Madison Martin

Hi all,
Does anyone know of any email services (if that's even the right word for them,
sorry if it's not) that don't filter messages at all? The reason that I ask is
because I had a gmail account (I actually still have it but I don't use it
anymore) but I stopped using it because I found out how much gmail filters
messages and this annoyed me. I switched back to an account with my ISP, but now
I'm having all kinds of problems with their filtering marking messages that
aren't spam as spam which means that I don't recieve them and now I'm constantly
worrying about whether or not I'll get a message or not and also about what
messages I'm not getting because of their filtering. There are newsletters that
I've signed up for that I'm pretty sure are being marked as spam and so therefor
I'm not getting them, I've added these addresses to my safe senders' list on my
ISP's webmail preferences but this has not solved my problem. They're not going
to my junk folder, I'm just plain not getting them, but I know I'm subscribed
because after I'd enter on the subscribe button a message saying that I was
subscribed, thanking me for subscribing etc. would pop up on my screen. When I
was subscribed to these newsletters with my gmail address they'd come through
just fine, but I really want to have all of my emails being sent to one address,
I really don't want to have to have to be checking multiple addresses all the
time. The reason I changed addresses is because I asked my ISP and they told me
that they don't filter to the same extent that gmail does. I totally get that
they need and want to protect people from spam and such, but when you're not
receiving all emails sent to you because they're thought to be spam when they're
not then that's no good either. I've asked them and they say that they can't
turn off the filters (if I have to deal with spam then I really don't care if it
means that it prevents other emails from being marked as spam and therefor I get
them which is all I really want) and I haven't gotten any response from them
when I've asked them to look into emails that aren't spam but are being marked
as such by their filters. I asked them and they told me that the spam filters
can't be modified, so they can't just set my filters to none. This is really
frustrating and worrying me and I'm really not sure what else to do so that's
why I'm asking about this. If anyone is wondering I use the latest versions of
Jaws, Office 365 (as I use Outlook to access my emails) and Windows 10 pro and I
don't have any rules or filters set up in Outlook. Really hope someone has a
suggestion, as I really want to do something about this as it's driving me nuts,
please don't tell me to just unsubscribe from the newsletters. Sorry for such a
long message, any help/suggestions will be very much appreciated!!!! Thanks
Madison

Hi, Marty. I don't know why you didn't find it in JAWS key plus six. It actually is there. Look in the search box for the word enable, and it should be the first result. It might have to do with which application is loaded when you look for the word enable.

Hi Bill.  I did the repair, and the problem is back.  Will uninstall the latest Jaws build and reinstall with vanilla settings and see if it happens.  Then I’ll start changing settings—maybe I can isolate the setting causing the issue.

Using     windows 10 latest build with JAWS 2021 latest build.

Hi, Kim. Before doing anything radical, I would try the troubleshooter for searches.

1. Open Control Panel.
2. Press the letter I until the screen reader says Indexing Options. Press ENTER on that.
3. TAB about five times, until you hear, Troubleshoot search and indexing Link, and press ENTER. 4. In the resulting list of check boxes, check number two, which should read, Files, folders, apps, or settings don't appear in results.
5. Press the "Next Button.
6. Press the "Try these repairs as an Administrator button 7. See if search is including the files, folders and options on your computer now, instead of just the web.

For example, when I type "downloads" in the search box, the results are not from my laptop but from the internet.

Mike,

I am not quite sure I understand what you mean by your first example, as the default windows indexing includes both file names and contents which can get messy as far as results go.  That's one reason I far prefer the Everything Search tool (with its default settings) when I want to search on file name versus file contents.

There also seems to be some crossing in your message between Windows Search and a search in File Explorer, which while there is some overlap, are not the same things.

I always think of Windows Search as being "global across the scope," which in the case of the files: operator is all indexed files in all indexed folders.

The main thing I use Windows Search for is to find files based on content on the rare occasions, and they do occur, when I can't for the life of me remember the correct file name or part of that file name, but can remember some distinctive phrase or word that is in the file I'm looking for.

So Mr. Brian:

May I ask this?

Using your example from the previous email,

If I wanted to search for the word “brian” in a folder with some files in it,

Would I type:

“content: ‘brian’”?

(of course without the quotes and apostrophes);

And, if I only wanted to see all the txt files in a folder,

Do I type:

“files: ‘*.txt’”?

(again of course without the quotes and apostrophes)?

Please advise as you like.

To be perfectly honest, I'd give up on setting the defaults, and use the search operators Windows Search gives you to limit your searches.

If you wish to limit to files on your machine, you can prefix the search with either files: or docs:
You must have the colon and there must be a space after that, but then start entering your search terms and the results will be limited to files/documents.  For folders, if you want to limit the search to folders alone, type folders: in front of the query.

This worked!  Thanks.  And, yes, it is Windows 10, latest build.

Hi, Dennis. The first thing I would have tried is a repair of JAWS 2021. I suspect that, if you relied on the migration feature of JAWS to bring your settings from JAWS 2020 forward to JAWS 2021, something may have been corrupted. I would try a JAWS 2021 repair, by downloading JAWS 2021 from Vispero. I never allow the automatic update process to update my JAWS. Instead, I get the latest installer, and go from there. Also, I wouldn't let the migration feature of JAWS change the settings in the latest build. Instead, make your custom settings directly within the latest build of JAWS 2021. I'll post the link to the latest JAWS 2021 installer below.

Subject: Inappropriate Forms Mode?

I let the update feature update my 2021 to the latest build, and now have a problem that isn’t in previous builds.

When I go to the Start menu search field, then type in Settings, it loads the Windows Settings app.

Navigating in that app, it acts as if forms mode automatically gets activated.

I don’t have auto forms mode set in my JAWS settings, but when I try to move left and right through the options, it gives me the forms mode sound, then moves character by character through the name of the option, not option by option.

Likewise, if I arrow down, I get the forms mode off sound

If I select an option with Enter, I get forms mode on sound, and can’t do squat with the selected option.

I dropped back to 2020, and no problem.

If I arrow through the Systems Tray, then select my network icon, it goes into forms mode, and I can’t do anything with that selection.

Any ideas?

Dennis
