To be perfectly honest, I'd give up on setting the defaults, and use the search operators Windows Search gives you to limit your searches.

If you wish to limit to files on your machine, you can prefix the search with either files: or docs:
You must have the colon and there must be a space after that, but then start entering your search terms and the results will be limited to files/documents. For folders, if you want to limit the search to folders alone, type folders: in front of the query.

Hi, Kim. Before doing anything radical, I would try the troubleshooter for searches.

1. Open Control Panel.
2. Press the letter I until the screen reader says Indexing Options. Press ENTER on that.
3. TAB about five times, until you hear, Troubleshoot search and indexing Link, and press ENTER.
4. In the resulting list of check boxes, check number two, which should read,
Files, folders, apps, or settings don't appear in results.
5. Press the "Next Button.
6. Press the "Try these repairs as an Administrator button
7. See if search is including the files, folders and options on your computer now, instead of just the web.

Hi, Dennis. The first thing I would have tried is a repair of JAWS 2021. I suspect that, if you relied on the migration feature of JAWS to bring your settings from JAWS 2020 forward to JAWS 2021, something may have been corrupted. I would try a JAWS 2021 repair, by downloading JAWS 2021 from Vispero. I never allow the automatic update process to update my JAWS. Instead, I get the latest installer, and go from there. Also, I wouldn't let the migration feature of JAWS change the settings in the latest build. Instead, make your custom settings directly within the latest build of JAWS 2021. I'll post the link to the latest JAWS 2021 installer below.

Hi, Jim. Maybe Dennis is talking about Windows 7, but from where in his post do you get this idea. He said that he let the update feature update his JAWS to the latest build of JAWS, then he spoke of the Settings App. I don't think Windows 7 even had a Settings app. Only Windows 10 and 11 has a Settings app.

Page name repeats when loading a page

When a webpage loads, I notice JAWS will repeat it's title, sometimes up to 3 times. I tried searching for an answer to why,, but without luck. Anyone notice this or can explain why?

Hi Jason,
I tried pressing CTRL+F6 but the only thing that happened is that JAWS did jump to the dialog box with the "Editors" button. Unfortunately, when I press TAB here now, I always end up back in the editor, even with Shift+TAB.

For my studies I need the program Eclipse, because we program with Java. I have already installed and opened the program. However, I have the following problem: When I created a new project and then create a class in it, I can no longer get out of the code text field. I do get to the menu bar with the Alt key and can also reliably find the elements there, but so far it is not possible for me to navigate out of the text field with F6, for example, and get to the other controls of Eclipse. In addition, many things are not displayed on the braille display, including, for example, the line in the code that I am on as well as errors in the code. Does anyone here perhaps use Eclipse and can give me more detailed information on how best to use it as a JAWS user?

No, you don’t want to get out of the edit field, but pressing escape will make the edit field blank, so long as you don’t up or down arrow again, just type.

The field already has text in it. I can move up and down and the value changes. The value is not even what I want. I can type over it. Hi,

Couple of things.

When the autofill text comes up, just type or paste new text into the edit field, ignoring the auto filled text, and it will go away.

Also, press escape and the text won’t be auto completed.

I love autofill personally, but I can see it would be annoying for some.

I get stuff like that from ninite.com, they allow you to get a easy accessible installer file, and you can then get itunes.  You can get many other tools there as well.  Just find itunes in the list, check the box, and then hit the get installer button at the bottom of the page.

So, I simply downloaded the latest version of iTunes for Windows directly from Apple at:
