how to change advanced power settings in windows
James English
Hello,
I know this is a general windows question but I'm getting close to throwing my laptop through a wall here and I'm wondering if anyone can help. My network card in a new pc is afflicted with the popular bug in which when the computer goes to sleep it turns off the card and it then has an issue turning back on again. I know that this is a regular issue and I knew how to fix it, however I've recently found out that windows appears to have decided to get rid of the power management tab in device manager. I've tried creating the CSEnabled key in the registry as the internet has suggested but still no luck. Does anyone know of a way of stopping windows from turning off the network card, or am I going to have to purchase a new network card? Would appreciate any help people can give me. - James

Yes, but just want to know that JFW has no plan to improve its usability

Also it seems that NVDA navigates more smoothly in iTunes if compared with JAWS. I tried backing up my iPhone using JAWS on iTunes and it is not as smooth tabbing around the menu compared to if using NVDA.

Well, it is now. I tried it with
nvda, and the menus no longer come up with just alt.

I was given to understand that a lot of the 'minimum specs' this time were in place because microsoft has strangely decided it cares about your security. I don't think it's because they're required for functionality, but more because microsoft thinks it owns your computer.

Re: rotating screen (mine ended up sideways)

Hi, David. Are you saying that in Zoom, your screen was sideways, or are you saying that the picture from your camera was sideways? If you are saying that the screen was sideways, you can click landscape or portrait if you are signed in with a free Zoom account. When you start Zoom, TAB three times, and it will say your name. Then,as you arrow up, it will say the following,
Buy a License
Of course, if you are already in portrait view, it will say Switch to Landscape View

Well, when turning the video on in Zoom somehow the picture ended up sideways and JAWS was no help. At least with Barbera’s problem JAWS does read out “Landscape” or “Portrait”

Hi, Barbara. Before attempting to press ALT plus CONTROL plus Up Arrow, try pressing the "passthrough" command in JAWS, which is JAWS key plus three on the numbers row, not the NumPad. Then after pressing the passthrough command, then try ALT plus CONTROL plus Up Arrow, and see if your screen rotates right-side up.

Hi- Periodically I mistakenly hit some combination of keystrokes that turns my screen sideways (landscape). When I searched for keystroke to change it to portrait, what I got was alt-ctrl-arrow – but the problem is that is a JAWS command for tables and when I do it, JAWS keeps telling me that I am not in a table (which I obviously know.
Any suggestions? Having a sideways screen is a problem when I am on a Zoom and also when I ask someone to help me with something on my computer.
Thanks, Barbara

Hi again, Barbara. Since ALT plus CONTROL plus Up Arrow is not a toggle command, it should always turn your screen right side up. If the screen is already right side up, ALT plus CONTROL plus Up Arrow won't change your screen at all.

I haven't tried the page with NVDA, but I just tried to read Verizon's page of accessible phones, and it constantly brings up a chat window for chatting with a sales person, and I'm just trying to read the page. I cannot even go back, I can only close that tab and re-open it, and I can't get more than a line read about their phones. Anyone have recommendations on talking flip phones? BTW, finally, when I was put into a chat window I didn't like, I took that opportunity to type in a complaint about their page with a screenreader. Isn't that ironic?

Re: PC Problem
Sieghard Weitzel <sieghard@...>
The first thing which comes to mind is not malware or anything like that but some application which prevents the computer from shutting down. If you use Jaws it may or may not say something, but the first thing I would do is get a sighted person to look at the computer screen when you are shutting it down and see if there are any messages, you could also use Aira or Be My Eyes if you have a smartphone and one or both of these apps. It maybe as simple as finding which application prevents the computer from shutting down and making sure said application is closed. Another thing you can do is check your Task Manager before you want to shut down the system and see if any applications are running or if all are background tasks.

Hi Glenn,
I’m very sorry for not replying to your inquiry sooner. Since you are interested in a flip phone, if you can look at the LG Classic L 125 DL, I’m sure you would like it. If you need a 5G phone this is not the one. It’s just a 4G version. I don’t know if LG has come out with a 5G version of this flip phone.
Hope this helps?
